Last Saturday we travelled to a surprisingly wet and heavy Moe ground and for the first time in many years of travelling to Moe came home with just the one win, being the seniors and also a draw in B grade netball. Full credit to the Moe FNC for the enormous work they have done in improving their on and off the field performance. It is a ray of hope and example for other clubs that may find themselves struggling for numbers and success.
Although we only had the one win recorded, the Reserves and A grade players, coaches and supporters could well be excused for considering that they were the better sides on the day and should also have come home with the points. Full credit must go to the A grade players, bench and supporters for displaying true sportsmanship in keeping their emotions under control in difficult circumstances.
The under 16s kicked off the day playing the top side and were unable to match the size, skill or professionalism of the Moe boys. Full credit for sticking together lads. Best: President’s Award – Branson Amato, Hair Bairs - Louis Riseley, CSC Snack Bar –Lochie Nunn, McDonalds – Alex Stanley. Clay Alexander & Tom Brew. The under 18s also went to a stronger side. Corals Fish n Chips – Blake Moscript, Bakers Delight – Nick Argento, McDonalds awards – Michael Olden and Lochie Nunn, M. Borschman and T. Jones. The reserves have already been mentioned, going down by one point and I am sure will be eagerly anticipating the return clash. McCartins Hotel – Jake Mackie, Darcy’s Café and Wine Bar – Mark Borschman, Evans Fuel – Brock Davidson. Eric O’Loughlin, Trent Renden and Pistol Gray.
The Seniors game was a close contest from start to finish. After a tight first half, with scores level at ¼ time and then a 2 point lead to the Parrots at half time, Glenn and the bench were pleased with the way the players responded under pressure in the 3rd quarter and then particularly in the last term with only 17 men and no rotations. A 7 point victory keeps the season alive, but a win against Traralgon is rquired this week. Best. Bairs Hotel – Chris Bruns, McCartins Hotel – Zac Vernon, Spokes Fresh Meat and Fish – James Parry. Chris Verboon, Nick Nagel and Tom Marriott.
The netballers all went down except B grade who continued the run of a draw in a netball game in each of the last 4 weeks. Awards: A Grade. Evans Petroleum – Kate McCarthy. Rusty Windmill – Kate Sperling. B Grade: South Gippsland Therapy Centre – Andrea Lynch. Rusty Windmill – Mia Allen. C Grade: Rusty Windmill – Meg Patterson. Buzz Hair Studio – Ashley Van Rooy. U17. Sportsfirst – Philippa Littlejohn. Bakers Delight – Koby Dennison. U15s. Excessorise – Evie Dekker. Bakers Delight – Ash Gilliam. U13s. Bakers Delight – Taylah Brown, Network Video – Simone Dekker.
Auction Players. Chris Bruns, Matt Davies, Kate McCarthy, Andrea Lynch & Ashlee Van Rooy.
This week is Pistol’s 300th club game, so get across to Traralgon to cheer him on and then return to the club rooms around 7.00 pm for pizza and KFC and to share the evening with the great man. Many tall stories will get taller as the night goes on.
Social Club. The next social function is The Back to School night at the social rooms on 28th June. Facebook for details. Also start getting your acts together for the players review after round 17, and get your table or tickets for the main fundraising event, the annual Goods and Services Auction.
Thursday night teas. Really going well with over 130 meals last week. The reduced price of meals for U16 and LJFC footballers and U15 & 13 netballers (and any younger kids) to just $5 including a can of soft drink seems to be a hit. Great meals to, well done under 15 netballers and parents.
Victory Through harmony.
