On Saturday we played host to Morwell and the seniors result may as well have wound the clock back 12 months. The situation was the same with Morwell top and undefeated and Leongatha with only two wins. The match scores were also very similar with Morwell kicking well clear in the first quarter and Leongatha pegging them back to almost snatch a win. On this occasion Morwell’s opening quarter was sensational, with the Morwell team breaking our tackles, holding onto their own tackles and then running with urgency spreading with system across the ground. Leongatha had little answer until after the first break. From there it seemed a different game with Leongatha not only matching Morwell but playing a similar brand and almost grabbing the win. On paper Morwell appeared the much stronger side, but Glenn Garner is getting the best out of his team as their confidence in each other grows. Here is hoping the team can take the same intensity into the Moe game today. Best: Bairs Hotel – Chris Bruns. Deb Watchorn Remedial Massage – Marc Truscio. Evans Petroleum – Chris Verboon. Spokes Fresh Meat and Fish – Nick Nagel. Zack Vernon and Nathan Lynch.
The reserves also lost it in one quarter, this time the second quarter. They are starting to play some good footy and the Moe game should be a top game to watch. Best: McCartins Hotel – Nick Phelan. Darcy’s Wine Bar – Mark Borschmann. Evans Fuel – Patrick McCaughan. Marriotts MPE – Sam Embrey. Justin Pellicano and Jake Mackie.
Under 18s. Played well again in the 1st quarter, but couldn’t go on with it again. Moe are only a couple of wins ahead of us, so this might be our time for a win. Best: Leongatha Health Foods – Jarrod Puruntatameri. Corals Fish N Chips – Kyle Cooper. Bakers Delight – Brayden Moscript. Hair Bairs – Matt Borschmann. McDonalds – Lochie Wright. Nick Argento. Under 16s. Matched Morwell for three quarters and then couldn’t hang on in the last Playing the top, undefeated side today. Best. President’s Award – Lochie Nunn. LFNC canteen – Nathan Trotto. McDonalds awards – Kyle Cooper and Tim Sauvarin. CSC Snack Bar – Josh Hastings. A. Drury.
Morwell netball is undefeated in the A, B and C grades. Our A grade are getting it together and matched Morwell right to the end, but not quite getting there for the win. Awards: Evans Petroleum – Kate McCarthy. Rusty Windmill – Kasie Rump. Darcy’s Café and Wine Bar – Laura Higgins. B Grade and C grade also put up a good show against the Morwell teams. B Grade: LC Excessorise – Andrea Lynch. Voyage Fitness – Jaclyn Smith. Rusty Windmill – Mia Allan. C Grade: Rusty Windmill – Melinda McLennan. Leongatha RSL – Sandi Leask-Grylls. Under 17s played a second consecutive draw. Sportsfirst – Kristy O’Loughlin. Baker’s Delight – Matilda Kilpin. The Under 15s managed their first win for the year: Network Video – Chloe Hogg. Baker’s Delight – Nikya Wright. Under 13s played well going down by 9: Nagel’s Pharmacy – Ella Lyons. Baker’s Delight – Alicia Marshman.
