The Parrots were definitely up for the fight and had the majority of the play for over half the game, however, the polish and delivery of some of Leongatha's chargers just wasn't at the same level as Traralgon's.
This final match was indicative of the Parrots season, with a third of the players well on top of their maroon counterparts, but the last third, just not being able to assert authority onto the game.
Excuses can be validly made; the fact that arguably the best seven players on the teamsheet (Sanbrook, Clingan, Marriott, Thursfield, Best, Holt, Stone) played three games or less for the season, doubled with the fact that half the reserves list went to minor leagues after winning the premiership last year, left a lot responsibility on Leongatha's inexperienced depth players.
These players should be better for the experience, and with the parrots looking for a new senior coach for season 2014 and outgoing coach, Thursfield signing up to solely play, there is a sense of optimism again flowing through the camp for a resurgent 2014.
