Welcome to the Taylors Lake Football and Netball Club.
The Taylors Lake Football Club, located 11 kilometers east of Horsham, was established by five Wimmera farming families shortly after World War II. The Fischers, Kelms, and Brooksbys are three of the families that are still very active.
One of the Wimmera's most important water storages, Taylors Lake, is where the Lakers initially held games on an oval. Between Dock and Green Lakes, they relocated in 1952, but the club maintained its old name. Later that year, The Lakers defeated Jung (a team that disbanded in 1973) in the Horsham District League title game to claim their lone senior championship. Surprisingly, Taylors Lake has yet to participate in another senior championship game. The club's sole other rewardfor many years of on-field labor is its three reserve championships, which were won in 1980, 1988, and 2016.
Before thewildfire ever started, Taylors Lake was having trouble staying afloat. But many residents thought the club was doomed after that specific disaster, which happened in one of the driest years of the Wimmera's ten-year drought. There were two offenders who set the fire. The first was the fairy grass flower, a natural species. The Western Highway was covered in a carpet of lightweight flowers and grass that had colonized the dry bed of Green Lake. Another offender was a tour bus. The fire was started by the bus's exhaust, according to Fischer, who recalls that the vehicle had stopped so people could snap pictures of the fairy grass.
Taylors Lake was compelled to play all of its home games in 2002 and half of its home games in 2003 in Horsham due to the destruction of its locker rooms. however with assistance from the government
The Lakers' supporters constructed a new building with the help of grants and contributions from individuals and organizations.
