Skill, courage, class, there are probably not enough superlatives to describe what Jason Morgan does on the football field. He runs onto the ground against Echuca Saturday night to play his 150th knowing that whatever position he starts, most likely won’t be the positon he is in by the end of the game.
There are not too many players who consistently dominate matches in the Goulburn Valley who are such an affable character on the ground either. Jason has rightfully gained the reputation of the leading centre half back in the competition, but is also used as a pinch hitter regularly in the centre to help generate clearances. And recently Morgs, has also been placed down in front of the big sticks, and kicked bags of goals.
Success has followed Jason throughout his career, or it could be argued that having him in your team creates more chance of success. He tasted ultimate success in the Assumption College side then in 2003 played for Ky in our U18s Premiership.
Jason could be considered a late bloomer, after not being considered by the recruiters watching the State U18 competition, but in the year he turned 26 and won the Best and Fairest for Kyabram, Richmond gave him his AFL chance.
Just as he was finding his feet in the big time, a pretty simple incident resulted in a broken leg. After 11 months of rehab he was back into the team. But it wasn’t long before he was injured again, this time with stress fractures.
Coming back to Kyabram has been a blessing for Kyabram, as we had played in two losing grand finals without him. The 2013 Premiership gave Jason the justification to return to Kyabram, so he could taste ultimate success with his mates.
Jason has also been a regular Goulburn Valley League representative, as well as representing Country Victoria.
We all wish him well this Saturday and hope he experiences some more of that ultimate success in the red and black.
