Congratulations to Belinda Lees (Muir) who plays her 100th GVNL game today. Belinda first started playing A grade in the league for the Echuca Bombers in the 2003 season as a 17 year old. She then moved to Melbourne to pursue a teaching career at university and continue to develop her netball, obtaining many personal goals along the way. In 2009, Belinda then returned to her home town, Moama, with her now husband Chris, and chose to play for Tongala in the MFL as her brothers were playing football with the club. It was there she was an integral part of the undefeated A grade premiership side and where she met her cherished friend Ashlea Mangan. Together they returned to the GVFL in the 2010 season with Kyabram. Belinda took over the head-coaching role at the Kyabram Football Netball Club as a playing coach in season 2011 and tasted the ultimate success with her A grade side in achieving back to back premierships in the 2011 and 2012 season. Belinda is now in her 5th season with Kyabram (4th as head coach) and is still as passionate about the role, continuing to develop the netball program at the club and taking on the challenges that such an instrumental and privileged role entails.
Belinda is extremely excited for the current season & the future of the professionally run netball program at Kyabram and acknowledges that coaching certainly has its challenges (nothing on trying to get back out on court and be a valuable contributing team member after giving birth to her beautiful baby girl Amelia 4 and ½ months ago) but it is all worth it when she is over whelmed with the selfish feeling of satisfaction and pride when she knows she has helped someone achieve something, often resulting in her hard “Hitler” exterior being broken down by tears of joy for her girls. Belinda wants to thank the KFNC for the opportunities that have been afforded to her and the life long, genuine friendships she has developed through the club. We wish Belinda all the best for her 100th game today and for the rest of the 2014 season. Go Ky Bombers!
