BLOODS BANTER: Round 3
A day game at Sunbury last week made a welcome change from the usual night games we’ve played there in the past. The Unders kicked off their season with a win – Jobbo booting 6 goals and taking best on ground honours. Jake Sygidus did all the grunt work in the midfield, while Captain Monitto, JJ Hibbert, Laughie Orr (who incidentally makes a good coffee – try one at the canteen) and new kid on the block Evan Donoghue rounded out the best players. The reserves had a day to forget with some early injuries not helping our cause. Sony Ericson and Tom Button the best two on the day. The seniors had an amazing come from behind win. With Matt Denham injured early, and Klix, Stevens, Archard, Watkins and Heaney all on the sidelines it was one of the youngest Bloods senior teams in memory (three debutants). The kids stood up to the task, with a runaway 17 point win in the end. Kighty kicked 4, but it was a day where the entire group worked together to achieve a special on the road win.
On the netball courts, A grade had a win with sisters Uneeq and Beyonce Pallavi our best on court. Uneeq was our sharp shooter with 30 goals. C grade also got on the board with a 36 to 31 win. E Grade was our third winner on the day, D Grade had a draw and B Grade went down.
This week, we are back at home. Melton v Sebastopol. For our senior footballers, a re-match against the team who knocked us out of the 2019 Preliminary Final. We might still be undermanned, but last week showed we have good depth and a group of players who are determined to succeed this year. The reserves will be aiming to return to the winners list, while the Unders will kick off the dew at 9.50am. Over on the netball courts the action will begin at 10am.
For those at Saturday’s game, the League have again re-enforced with clubs the COVID protocols for 2021. At half time, Under 19 and Reserve players are to remain on the ground and NOT return to the change rooms. And secondly, clubs’ members and supporters are not to enter changerooms after games to join in celebrations. We ask for your co-operation with this. No matter what you think of the rules, these are the guidelines we have to work with to play football in 2021.
Our Premiership Reunions have been postponed until Saturday May 15 when we play East Point. This promises to be a great day where the ex-players get to catch up, and if past years have taught us anything it is a time where the stories just get bigger and better. That night we have our $3k draw – Rayza will be in his element handing out and collecting tickets over the coming weeks – see him if you’d like to buy a ticket.
After the game on Saturday it’s our “Sporting Icons Games Night” … $10 entry and tickets can be purchased at the door. We hear there might be more than one Kevin Klix in the room!
Women’s football kicks off this Sunday – we meet Darley at Maccy Park from 12.45pm. Drop in and support the girls as they kick off the 2021 season under new coach Michael Emery.
Nabby is still searching for more sponsors – if you’d like to join our club as a 2021 partner please give him a call. We thank partners such as Hotondo Homes Melton, Café Kebab Melton, Bertocchi, and Dawson’s Pest Control for sticking with us in 2021. Also thanks to Western Window Coatings for donating a voucher for the club to give away at each home game this year. Sportsco Melton are our sponsor of the week – you’ll find them at Woodgrove for all your sporting needs.
Meltonians Memberships are still available – see Denis Mawson to sign up.
Thursday meals are back in full swing – Helen and the team have schnitzel or pasta on the menu for $12. All welcome.
Our Punting Competition is still going. $20 every Saturday, pick one horse in each race at the main Melbourne meeting for your chance to win! See Jacko if you aren’t sure how to sign up, all the selections and results are done online which makes it very easy to submit your tips and follow the results during the day.
Check our website - meltonfnc.com.au for all the info you need about what’s happening at the club and remember to like our pages on social media.
That’s all for this week, on behalf of the committee – GO BLOODS!!
