Saturday was a day of mixed fortunes for the Blues, with the Reserves recording a stirring come from behind win to advance, while the Colts went down but live to fight another day.
RESERVES
The Reserves side battled tough conditions and a tough Wembley side in their sudden death 1st Semi Final on Saturday, winning a see-sawing battle by 9 points at City Beach Oval to set up a Preliminary Final date with North Fremantle.
Wembley led by 2 points at quarter time, but the Blues kicked 2 goals to 1 on the second term to lead by 7 at the main break. The Magpies were able to hold the Blues scoreless in the third term to turn for home with a 7 point advantage, but Willetton were not to be denied, hitting the front through a goal to Hadyn Sleeman with just 4 minutes on the clock, before Jake Burston took centre stage to cap off a memorable win.
And who better to describe Burston's sealer than the man himself. Here is Jake's description of the game's final goal, provided via Facebook:
"Blistering conditions, hurricane sandy made it difficult to kick goals all day, an inspirational tackle on the 50 earning a free kick, ball drops to the ground, the samurai picks it up with one hand, fends off a would be tackler, hits top speed and uses the wind to his advantage splitting the middle. High knees and aggressive fist pumps to celebrate and symbolise how great of a day it was for the blues!"
We can only assume that Burston himself is "The Samurai"....

COLTS
The Colts side had a day to forget up at Ray Owen Reserve, going down to the top-of-the-table Scarborough by 37 points in their 2nd Semi Final.
The bigger bodies of the Scarborough team seemed to out muscle the Blues all day, however inaccurate kicking kept Willetton in the game until late. John Lee kicked Willetton's first major just before half time and Daniel Hug added a second midway through the last.
While they may have gone down, the Colts worked hard all season to earn a double chance. They will take on Bullcreek Leeming in their Preliminary Final, who upset North Fremantle in the other Semi.
