100 years of the Girgarre Football Netball Club!!
Disappointingly, due to COVID-19, 2020 did not see our great Club able to celebrate our Centenary. However, it is but a bump in the road, as we plan our celebrations for our fantastic club turning 100 years this year. What a wonderful achievement. Thank you to every single person who has been a part of this great club over that time, whether as a player, coach, committee person, President, team official, canteen or bar manager, loyal supporter or sponsor. Without you, we wouldnt be here today.
We are again planning to start the season with a bang in Rd 1 with our Ball "Under the Stars" held out on the oval. It will definitley be a night not to be missed!! Our Centenary celebrations will be on the weekend of August 7th and 8th. We would love to see many of our past members and supporters from over the years attend these events. More details to come!!
After a false start (cancellation of the 2020 season), the Senior side will again be led by coach Bill Barnes in 2021, with Nick Mellington as Assistant Coach. We are very excited to see what Bill and the playing group bring this year. The boys have been really enjoying Bill's style of preparation for the season ahead. The Girgarre FNC is also delighted as 2019 Assistant Coach Rory Young takes over from Breeza as the Reserves coach with Daniel Arnold assisting. There was much excitement around the club with the appointment of Paul Parsons as Coach of the Thirds, and this is clearly evident with fantastic numbers already rolling up to training. The football department has continued to work hard behind the scenes with some exciting new recruits.
There is huge excitement on the netball side with the re-appointment of Abby Pettifer as our A grade coach, coming to us from Kyabram FNC and Tongala FNC. She has an impressive resume and has been a huge drawcard for some very talented netballers to hit the courts at Girgarre. Even though 2020 did not eventuate, Abby and her group of A grade girls have kept up a positive banter and camaraderie, with the majority of girls returning after the forced break. Chloe Kavanagh continues as our B grade coach and both Abby and Chloe will be working closely together. We also have 4 junior netball teams with 11 and under being introduced into the KDL. We are still looking for more girls and boys aged 7-13 for our 11- and 13 and under teams.
Football preseason has re-commenced with great numbers on the park. Training nights are currently Monday/Wednesday, starting at 6pm. Netballers are training Tues/Thurs nights.
