Hello All,
Firstly, I hope you and your families are all well in this surreal time in the world. I understand that now, there are more concerning issues in the world and in our lives than Junior football. So I’ll keep this update as short as I can and just cover a couple of things we will be implementing over the coming weeks to assist our kids and members keep fit, stay engaged and have something other than the Coronavirus to turn their minds to, as well as promoting our wonderful sponsors, some of who will need all the support they can get during these difficult times.
As you are all aware the season has been postponed until at least May 31st. We will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with the SMJFL to keep you updated on any pending developments regarding the season proper. Given that it looks as though we have at least 11-12 weeks of no training or games, we will be putting out some “Training at Home” activities 1-2 times per week which the kids can endeavor to undertake during school holidays and our footy hiatus. Our thoughts around this is to keep them engaged in football as well as keep their skills and fitness up. Please keep an eye out for these activities which will be communicated a couple of times per week via Team App and social media.
The other important aspect of our club is our club sponsors and supporters. WPH is lucky enough to have many sponsors who are continuing to support the club even through these tough times and we cannot express how appreciative we are of this ongoing support. Without these businesses we could not survive and thrive with all the benefits we see around the club. In this current situation, business is tough with many small and medium businesses really struggling and in need of our community support to help get through. Over the coming weeks you will see social media posts regarding our sponsors. I encourage you all to read the posts and where possible, support these businesses, just as they are supporting us.
On a positive note, the most recent communication from the SMJFL is that providing things settle down, there are still plans in place for a footy season this year, we just need to hold out to see how that will look and fingers crossed we see some positive news sooner rather than later.
Finally, personally I’m disappointed in the delay of the season as I’m sure everyone else is, especially the girls and boys. For some perspective though, I turn my mind to those who have businesses or are working within businesses and industries which are really struggling at this time – airlines, hospitality, gyms, event management, retail, just to name a few. These are tough times where businesses and jobs will be lost within our community, we need to support these where we can. I’d also like to thank those involved in the health, education and emergency service industries who are putting their own and their family’s health at risk through exposure and long hours to support the community through these challenging times. Footy is important to us all, but family and health should be the focus in such unprecedented times, and we all need to work together, help each other, be kind and we will all get through this tough time.
That’s enough from me, keep an eye out for our training from home activities and sponsors corner and most importantly please stay safe.
Regards,
Ryan
