Varsity Vipers – 2022 GCJBL Registration Information

 

Welcome to the 2022 GCJBL Winter Season with the Varsity Vipers Basketball Club.

Please read ALL Information below before registering your Child/ren.

The Gold Coast Junior Basketball league (GCJBL) is the Premier Gold Coast Junior Basketball Competition.

The GCJBL consists of 13 clubs: Burleigh Blades, Gold Coast Celtics, Heat Basketball Club, PBC Magpies, Northern Nets, Pacific Pines Panthers, Somerset Spartans, (Somerset College students only) TSS Suns, (TSS students only) Southern Coast Slammers, Varsity Vipers, Kings Basketball Club (Kings Christian College students only), Central Stars, Lindisfarne Lions (Lindisfarne College students only).

Competitions are run for boys in the U9,11,13,15,17 and 20 age groups and U9,11,13,15 and Open Girls (U13-U20). The purpose of the GCJBL is to provide a competition pathway for junior basketball players on the Gold Coast as they follow their Basketball dreams.

 

NEW & BEGINNER PLAYERS:

At the Varsity Vipers we recommend that all beginner players spend some time attending our Varsity Vipers Saturday Skills Program. Located at the Varsity College Secondary campus, our Saturday Skills programs caters for beginning players to learn the skills & strategies needed to build the confidence to compete in the GCJBL Winter Competition.

The season includes:

  • Four grading rounds
  • 14 regular season competition rounds
  • Semi finals (top 4 teams in each competition only)
  • Finals (winners of the semi finals only)

 

GCJBL Venues:

The GCJBL will predominantly be played at the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre at Carrara, we will also be utilising Tallebudgera Recreation Centre and Somerset College on occasion.

Note: Players are expected to attend both trials.

2022 Gold Coast Basketball and Basketball Queensland Registration Information:

 All players must be registered with Gold Coast Basketball and Basketball Queensland to be eligible to participate in the 2022 GCJBL competition. The registration period for each product lasts for 365 days.

Note to NEW Players: All NEW players must purchase a new playing uniform. Fitting is available at the first trial.

Team Training Information:

All training sessions are held at the Varsity College Secondary Campus Basketball Stadium. Teams will be allocated one of the time slots below depending on coach avaialbility as follows:

U17’s & U20’s – Mondays 4pm – 5pm / 5pm – 6pm / 6pm – 7pm

U15’s - Tuesdays 4pm – 5pm / 5pm – 6pm / 6pm – 7pm

U13’s - Wednesdays 4pm – 5pm / 5pm – 6pm / 6pm – 7pm

U11’s & U9’s - Thursdays 4pm – 5pm / 5pm – 6pm / 6pm – 7pm

 

Coaches and Team Managers WANTED:

In order for Vipers to enter teams into competitions, it is a requirement that we have a coach and manager for each team. If you would like to volunteer your time as a coach or a manager please contact Scott McGregor our Director of Coaching at coach@varsityvipers.com.au to express your interest.

 

Gold Coast Basketball Representative Season:

 

To be eligible to represent Gold Coast Basketball in the SQJBC season, players must participate in 50% of the 2022 Winter Season games. Summer league is NOT an eligible competition.

 

U12/U14:

To be eligible for the 2021/2022 Representative Season, players must play 50% of games in the 2022 GCJBL Winter season.

 

U16/U18/U21:

To be eligible for the 2022/2023 Representative Season, players must play 50% of games in the 2022 GCJBL Winter season.
