Registrations now open for Summer Season 2022!

Great news - registrations are now open to play with the Dodgers for the rescheduled short (5 week) Summer season which will be run during January/February 2022.
Note that Basketball ACT will be trialling a new approach to Summer competitions (see more below).
  • The Dodgers will be entering teams in the new Junior Summer Open (same as the current Junior Premier League played on Friday nights) and Junior Summer Social (Divisions 1-6 and Under 10s, played on Saturdays and Sundays).
  • There will also be a new Junior Summer Slam competition running on Saturday nights for elite juniors (this is run entirely by Basketball ACT)
  • There are also additional 3x3 options for all (read more below).
Please note: players are only able to register in one 5x5 competition (5x5 being 5 players per team on a full court, ie. as per the current Winter competition). Players wishing to play multiple games per week are encouraged to play 3x3 (3 players per team, essentially on a half court) as well as in their respective junior 5x5 competition.
JUNIOR SLAM (run by Basketball ACT)
Junior Summer Slam is the top-tier junior competition for the Summer season. This is being organised by Basketball ACT and will be run outside of the traditional club-based system. The Dodgers will not be entering teams into this competition (but some of our elite players will naturally nominate for the draft). It is being offered for u15s (players born 2007 and 2008) and u17s (born 2005 and 2006). Slam is a draft based competition, where nominated players will be put into a draft, with elite rep coaches selecting their teams on a discretionary basis.
  • Junior Slam will be played on Saturday evenings.
  • Junior Slam will be run directly by Basketball ACT.
  • Please visit the Basketball ACT website for further information about Junior Slam registrations and 3x3 registrations - (go to Juniors then Competitions).
JUNIOR OPEN (Dodgers teams to participate)
Junior Summer Open is the second-tier junior competition for the Summer season. It is being offered in traditional age groupings of u12s, u14s, u16s and u19s. Junior Summer Open is only for BACT member club-based teams (which includes the Dodgers).
  • All Junior Summer Open games will be played on a Friday night.
  • For the Dodgers, the Summer Open teams will be made up of our JPL and Division 1 players who don't nominate for (or do not make it into) Summer Slam. Teams will be selected on a discretionary basis by the Dodgers' current JPL Coaches and Age Group Coordinators in consultation with the Dodgers' Head of Player Development.
JUNIOR SOCIAL (Dodgers teams to participate)
Junior Summer Social is the third-tier junior competition for the summer season. It is being offered for U10s, U12s, U14s, u16s and u19s. Junior Summer Social is open to both club and non-club based teams.
  • Junior Social competitions will be played on Saturdays and Sundays (depending on the age group and division).
  • Teams will be selected based on performance in the 2021 Winter competition on a discretionary basis by the Dodgers' current Age Group Coordinators, in consultation with the Dodgers' Head of Player Development and coaches, with an aim to maintain Winter team compositions where possible, dependent upon registrations received.

JUNIOR 3X3 SUMMER (self-organised teams...but there's some assistance available to form teams)
3x3 is an exciting new format showcased for the first time at the recent Tokyo Olympics and the Dodgers strongly encourage players and coaches to consider trying it out this Summer. The Junior 3x3 Summer comprises a 5 Week 'tour' and a series of 1 Day 'Hustles'. While the Club will not be taking registrations or entering teams directly, we encourage our coaches and parents to form teams with existing teammates, enter under a Dodgers name and wear your Dodgers uniform in the comps. Juniors can also form and compete in non-club based social teams with friends and/or existing teammates.
Teams must play in matching numbered singlets. Dodgers uniforms can be worn in these competitions.
Further competition details are available at
Help is available to form your 3X3 team - Club members are encouraged to put their own teams together but if you need some help/advice please contact our age group co-ordinator Peter Andruska at peter[AT] or 0439 733 320 and he'll be happy to assist.
TRANSFERS - 5X5 Summer season
BACT has confirmed there are no transfers being applied for the Summer season. Therefore players from other clubs that are not fielding teams in the 5x5 competition can join the Dodgers for the Summer season without affecting their junior transfer status for the Winter comp 2022. Any new players wanting to play with the Dodgers in the Summer season will be required to purchase a Dodgers uniform, however.
The Dodgers will accept all registrations during the registration period as usual. Late registrations will only be accepted to fill teams that are incomplete - this will be at the discretion of the club.
There will be no Dodgers selection trials for the short Summer 2021 season - the Dodgers will run a full selection trial when we regrade age divisions for the Winter Comp 2022 (more information on this will be provided later this month). Our Age Group Coordinators will form teams for the Summer comp on a best effort basis, mainly using current playing divisions as a guide. For new players to the club who are U12 and above, please ensure you fill in the 'Previous Playing Experience' box on your registration form.
Registrations Open: Monday 8 November
Registrations Close: Midnight 6 December
Club fee U10 - $85
Club fee U12-U19 - $95
BACT Affiliation fee (insurance) - $28.50
All players who register during the official registration window are guaranteed to be placed in a team commensurate with their abilities. As always, the Dodgers will endeavour to accommodate late registrations but these can only be accepted where there is an appropriate spot available in a team that has not yet filled up. Late registrations will be allocated at the discretion of the Dodgers.

All players are expected to have a Dodgers shorts and singlet - all other uniform and merchandise items are optional.
The Dodgers have transitioned to a new uniform supplier, iAthletic - we have maintained the same design so there will not be a requirement to purchase a new uniform. If you need playing shorts or singlets, please select those items when you register your player.
All items will be picked up from the club uniform store at the Headley Beare Teaching & Learning Centre (old Stirling College).
Item sizes can be selected upon pick up. Numbers are dependent upon what is available in that size.
The club will advise via email when the uniform store is open for item pick up.
We understand that many families are doing it tough at the moment, and we have a small amount of second hand uniforms we can lend out on request. If you have a Dodgers uniform that is clean and in good condition that you no longer need, you can donate these to the club when the uniform store is open.
If you have any uniform enquiries for the Summer season, please email
The Dodgers now have a new merchandise store run by iAthletic.
Available to purchase is a range of high quality Dodgers branded items including t-shirts, shorts, hoodies, track pants and bags that are sent directly to you from iAthletic.
Players are not required to purchase any additional Dodgers merchandise from iAthletic. Dodgers merchandise helps promote the club and support us financially (and keeps your junior athletes warm on those cold Canberra mornings).

The Dodgers are delighted to announce one of Canberra's leading businesses, Benmax, have signed on as a sponsor of our junior program for the Summer 2021 and Winter 2022 seasons! A proud Canberra company since 1986, Benmax design, build and maintain mechanical systems for commercial and industrial facilities - read more at
Thanks to Benmax, for a strictly limited time we will be making the new Dodgers iAthletic warm-up shirt available for purchase from our uniform store for just $20! (this is normally $45 retail from the new online shop). Keep an eye out for more details on opening times for our uniform store in the coming weeks.

We continue to seek volunteers for a number of roles. Most roles are only a few hours a week (some even less) but covering those roles is a massive help to the club and our juniors playing basketball at the Dodgers.
  • If you can coach, please let us know...we need you! Please contact Grant at with your expression of interest for coaching if you have the following:

    • some basketball coaching/playing experience...or are keen to coach
    • (importantly) have a constructive, friendly and calm temperament
    • please note - all of our coaches are required to hold a Working With Vulnerable People registration card (free to apply for if you don't already have one).
  • If you can't coach, we have a number of other roles available that will really assist the club.

Please keep an eye on your inbox, our Facebook page and our website for further details on the Summer 2021 season - and we look forward to having your junior play for us!

Following our recent AGM, we are pleased to announce our new committee for the next 12 months - also, a big thank you and welcome to several Dodgers families who joined our general committee at the AGM, not to mention our fantastic Age Group Co-ordinators, coaches and others who continue to do so much for our club.

President - Ash Cross
Vice President (Head of Coach and Player Development) - Grant Keys
Vice President - Deb McAppion
Registrar - Sean Bradbery
Secretary - Rachel Regan
Treasurer - Gerard Frawley
Venues - Justine Murphy
Uniforms - Joanne Hawkes
Comms - Pat Daley
If you are not already part of the Dodgers, or know someone who is keen to play on a Dodgers team, you/they may be interested in information around team training days and times. Teams train between 1 and 1.5 hours a week (depending on their division/competition) on Monday - Thursday (usually in the time range of 4:30pm to 8pm). Our primary main training venue is the Hedley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning at Stirling, with teams also training at Stromlo & Alfred Deakin High Schools, Canberra College and Wesley Church Forrest. Younger age groups tend to train at the earlier times, with older age groups training at the later times (although this can vary depending on various factors).
Returning coaches are given first preference on their existing training slots, but a good way to get your preferred training time from the slots available is to volunteer to coach for us!

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
