AGM notice and season update

A big 'lockdown hello' to all Dodgers players, families and coaches!

We hope you are all staying safe, and also staying fit and active wherever possible.

Please find an update on a couple of Dodgers matters, namely our forthcoming AGM (via Zoom) and current Basketball ACT thinking on finalisation of the Winter season of basketball and commencement of the Summer season.

Dodgers 2021 Annual General Meeting (via Zoom)

8pm, Sunday 5 September

All Dodgers families welcome, and encouraged to attend!

After some delay due to uncertainties about having a face-to-face meeting in the current environment, we have decided to proceed with the Dodgers 2021 Annual General Meeting over Zoom.

The meeting will be held on Sunday 5 September at 8pm.

We warmly encourage all Dodgers families to join the meeting - please feel free to bring your ideas and views on the direction of our Club, or please also feel free to just attend to listen in!

If you wish to participate, please email Pat at wcwdcomms@gmail.com and he will send you a link.

All key Committee positions will be up for election.

While the Club has a core of hardworking and friendly volunteers, there is always room for more people to assist - so if you are interested in either nominating for a Committee position or volunteering in another role, please get in touch with Pat at the email address above.

We look forward to seeing you on the small screen at our AGM!

Update on the Winter season and forthcoming Summer season

We just wanted to provide you with a quick update on Basketball ACT's (BACT) current thinking on the Winter season recommencement, and the Summer season ahead.

This may of course change if the lockdown is extended, or if there are conditions placed on a return to normal life which impact on the ability to return to playing team sport in a safe manner.

At this point, post lockdown (assuming the lockdown is lifted on 2 September):

  • The Junior Winter Competition will recommence, with the remaining three rounds rescheduled. There will be no finals series played across the Junior Divisions, with winners crowned on a first-place basis at the conclusion of the competition rounds.

  • The Senior Premier League Competition will recommence, with the remaining one or two rounds being rescheduled. A two week finals series will be held for the competition.

  • The Senior Social Winter Competition will be rescheduled, with the remaining competition rounds to be played. Basketball ACT will determine on 2 September 2021 as to what the finals format for this competition will be.

Summer competitions

The Dodgers will continue to monitor developments closely as we come out of lockdown restrictions, including any impacts that the Winter competition's conclusion will have on the commencement of the Summer season.

Find our earlier announcements regarding the Summer season below:

Once we have a clearer picture from BACT on the Summer season, we will let the Dodgers community know and put appropriate Summer season registration arrangements in place.

BACT is in regular contact with ACT Health and relevant government authorities, and has assured Clubs that player safety is the highest priority when we get to play again.

We will update you again as soon as there are any developments.

In the meantime, please stay safe...and let's hope we are all back on a court soon!

Best wishes

Ashley Cross

WCW Dodgers President
