Update from the Dodgers - 19 July 2020

Hello to all Dodgers players and families!

A few updates for you as we get closer to the start of the Winter competition (yippee!)

Under 10s competition pushed back a week

With the current Step 2.2 of the Canberra COVID-19 Recovery Plan only allowing 100 people per enclosed space, Basketball ACT (BACT) has made the decision to push the Under 10s competition back an extra week. This will mean the Under 10s competition will now start on Sunday 2 August. The competition will still run for 16 weeks.

Other age groups in junior comp to commence from this week

The ACT Government has given its final approval for full contact community sport to re-commence (with effect from midday Friday 17 July 2020), and that means all Basketball ACT competitions will commence as follows:

  • Premier Division – Round 1 tips-off 22 July 2020
  • Junior Winter – Round 1 tips-off 24-26 July 2020
  • Senior Social – Round 1 tips-off 27 July 2020

Strict protocols will continue to be in place to ensure participant safety, which everyone will need to adhere to so as not to breach any health directives. BACT will provide further updates this week, which we will share with you.

COVID safety when training

Please ensure that you read up on our COVID Safety Plan, which outlines the steps that coaches, parents and our junior players need to take to remain COVID safe while at Dodgers training sessions. Please click here to access it.

Uniform store update

Our uniform store will be open this Saturday 25 July (9-10am) for the collection of temporary playing jerseys/singlets and shorts. This will be the last chance before games start! Also, if you have any temporary jerseys/singlets that are not currently in use, please return them to our uniform store on Saturday morning as we are getting low on them and we need them urgently for other Dodgers families. Our uniform store is located right near the indoor basketball court / gymnasium at the Hedley Beare Centre (Old Stirling College), Fremantle Drive, Stirling.

Junior development program – starts this Saturday

Our 9 week junior development program - run by one of our senior coaches, Anthony Hunia - will start up again this Saturday at the Canberra College Gymnasium (Launceston Street, Phillip). The cost is $100 for the 9 weeks or $20 per session (casual rate).

There are two sessions:

  • 9am to 10.30am for Under 10 to Under 12 boys and girls
  • 10.30am to midday for Under 14 to Under 16 boys and girls

There is a maximum of 30 players per session, so be quick!

Email anthonyhunia@yahoo.co.nz to register.

We’re looking forward to seeing our Dodgers teams back on the courts very soon!
