February 2020 update

Hello to all Dodgers players and families!

A quick update from us - and a plea for your assistance.

Winter season registration - opening Monday 2 March

Registrations to play with the Dodgers for the 2020 Winter Competition will open on Monday 2 March and close at midnight on Sunday 29 March. Links to our registration form will be emailed, put on our Facebook page and also posted on our website. Please make sure you register early (and also order any uniform requirements as soon as you have registered) to avoid disappointment. Late registrations will only be accepted with prior approval of the Club and/or to fill roster gaps, and acceptance of late registrations is entirely at the discretion of the Club. Given uniform orders can take some time to reach us once they have been ordered, it is best to order as soon as you can after registering your player.

Urgently needed - Dodgers volunteers for vacant positions - Girl’s Age Group Co-ordinators

After many years of fantastic service to the Dodgers, Lee and Natalie are moving on. A huge thank you to them for their enormous contribution to our Club, and the terrific way they have overseen our Girls’ program. They have both been a pleasure to work with! This leaves a couple of vacancies for 1-2 people to fill this valuable Club role and to work collaboratively with others on the Dodgers Committee.

A natural split would be for one person to look after the Under 14 Girls and one for the Under 16/19 Girls; or one enthusiastic person to take on all three age groups. (We are very fortunate to have Mel looking after our Under 10/12 Girls!)

Please email Ashley, our Club President, at cross5@homemail.com.au if you are interested in these positions and wish to talk through the role. Handovers, support and advice will be available for new starters in positions.

The roles include the following:

  • Staying in touch with coaches and managers and being a communication point for two way information flow and problem solving - eg, from Basketball ACT, advice from the Club Registrar and other office holders etc.
  • Leading team formation (players/coaches identification) heading into each Season with the support of others in the Club.
  • Taking the lead and working with others in the Club to run an annual trials process in the lead-up to the Summer Season (when we have our age group change).

We'd love to have your join our team in these critical roles! Please contact Ashley if you are interested and able to assist.

Division 1 levy - Summer season

We'd just like to remind parents who have players in Division 1 that there is a levy this season to cover the extra costs of fielding Division 1 sides. (We appreciate that some Division 1 families may have been waiting for an invoice before paying this levy). If you haven't already paid the levy for your Division 1 player/s for the Summer comp, you can now do so via this link (please note that although the form you will link through to may look as though it is a registration form for your player, the second page of the form deals with Division 1 payments) - https://membership.sportstg.com/regoform.cgi?formID=91227. Please email our Club Registrar, Sean, if you have any questions - wcwdbasketball@gmail.com.

Saturday morning skills sessions

Our highly popular Saturday morning skills sessions are now well underway for the year - but it's not too late to get your junior Dodger involved! A big thanks to Coach Anthony Hunia for continuing to devote his Saturdays to run these great sessions for our junior Dodgers. Session 1 (Beginners Skills Session for U10, U12, and first time players) runs from 9am-10.30am, and Session 2 (Advanced Skills Session for U14, U16 and U19 players) runs from 10.30am-midday. Each session has a maximum of 30 athletes. The cost is $20 per session (casual basis) or $100 for full payment made for the remaining 7 sessions for the term. The venue is the basketball court at the Hedley Beare Centre (Old Stirling College), Fremantle Drive, Stirling. Please email anthonyhunia@yahoo.co.nz to register. Payment is by cash on the day.

Until next time, happy balling!

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
