January 2020 update

Hello to all players and parents!

A warm welcome back to the second half of the Summer season of basketball.

First of all, we join basketball communities across the world in expressing our deepest sadness and condolences to the family, friends and team-mates of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, following the tragic accident that occurred this week. Words cannot express the enormity of this tragedy, which has robbed those closest to Kobe and Gianna - as well as the wider world - of two special people. Our deepest thoughts go out to those who were closest to them, and who will be missing them enormously.

Please find a few other updates below:

A reminder that training and games restart during the first week of the public school term (ie. next week). Summer Comp round 9 begins on Friday 7 February.

We'd just like to remind parents who have players in Division 1 that there is a levy this season to cover the extra costs of fielding Division 1 sides. (We appreciate that some Division 1 families may have been waiting for an invoice before paying this levy). If you haven't already paid the levy for your Division 1 player/s for the Summer comp, you can now do so via this link (please note that although the form you will link through to may look as though it is a registration form for your player, the second page of the form deals with Division 1 payments). Please email our Club Registrar, Sean, if you have any questions - wcwdbasketball@gmail.com.

We are seeking a new U14 Girls Coordinator to take over the role from the wonderful Lee Hodges, commencing within the next few weeks - please email Natalie Boyes at wcwdgirlscoordinator@gmail.com if you can assist. Huge thanks to you, Lee, for the immense dedication you have brought to the role over a substantial period of time.

Our highly popular Saturday morning skills sessions kick off again on 8 February! A big thanks to Coach Anthony Hunia for continuing to devote his Saturdays to run these great sessions for our junior Dodgers. Session 1 (Beginners Skills Session for U10, U12, and first time players) runs from 9am-10.30am, and Session 2 (Advanced Skills Session for U14, U16, and U19 players) runs from 10.30am-midday. Each session has a maximum of 30 athletes. The cost is $100 for the full term (9 x Saturdays) or $20 per session (casual basis). The venue is the basketball court at the Hedley Beare Centre (Old Stirling College), Fremantle Drive, Stirling. Please email anthonyhunia@yahoo.co.nz to register. Payment is by cash on the day.

It may be hard to believe with the current temperatures and fire situation, but the Winter season is fast approaching! Please keep an eye on your email - and our Facebook page - during March for registration details.

We hope you have a great second half of the Summer season - and we'll see you on the courts!

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
