Yeoman Football Club to host event to honour six members who passed away this year

The Yeoman Football Club will finally get to honour six of its members who passed away this year when it hosts a memorial event later this month.
Titled A Day To Remember, the event will honour Garry Pearce, Ron Chequer, Geoff Gaby, Graeme Warren, Geoff Lockett and Greg Byrne.
Club president Shaun O'Neill said that the early stages of the current COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in the Robins faithful not being able to give the six men an appropriate farewell.
"Funeral limitations were at 10 people at one point and only expanded to 20 so it made it really hard for the club to honour these guys," he said.
"Added to that was the fact that the DFA didn't go ahead this year, so we really haven't had an opportunity to do anything.
"But as a club we've taken the view that we do owe these men, along with their families, an occasion to celebrate their lives and the contribution they have made.
Garry Pearce will be one of six former Yeoman members honoured at an event later this month.
"We've sent out invitations to each of the families, but it's pretty much an open invitation for people to come and pay their respects."
The event will be held at the Yeoman clubrooms in Pearl Street on Saturday, September 26, starting from 2pm, with bar facilities available and finger food served.
During the afternoon guest speakers will get up on stage to share their memories of the six men.
More details are available on the Yeoman Football Club Facebook page.
