In my second year as President, I would like to officially welcome all the new people to our Club and to welcome back all the returning people.
Last year, the appointment of Tom Mitchell as our coach and the subsequent recruitment of over 20 players, either new to or returning to the Club, filled people at Yeoman with confidence. In addition to having new faces on the field, there were also a lot of changes off the field too. With a Committee of 21 personnel, with the right mix of youth and experience, all wanting to help the Club in their roles, we had an outstanding start.
Ten initiatives for revenue-raising were put in place and, under the astute guidance of Treasurer Terry Lamprey, resulted in a record year. 24 sponsors were signed (20 of them new to the Club) along with 26 player sponsors. All contributed to the Club financially or with goods and services. Outstanding effort!
So, the 2017 season was a big turning point for Yeoman with a rejuvenated, positive family atmosphere, and a very enjoyable place to be. We saw a lot of newcomers to the Club as well as some old faces returning.
Now comes the time to follow up that success with further development. I believe we have a very sustainable future. The reappointment of Tom, with Nick as Assistant Coach and Jamie as Bench/Fitness Coach, and the recruitment of a number of well-credentialled players, sees us confident of continuing to improve on the field. Off the field, a solid foundation has been set and we can continue all the initiatives from last year e.g. the Players’ Teas after training on Thursday, with guest speakers and a bit of fun as well.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank anyone who was involved with the Yeoman Football Club for season 2017 - players, coaches, committee, sponsors, volunteers, members and visitors – and wish everyone another happy season for 2018.
