Sam Ciurleo started with the club as a player in 1972. As a player, he was solid, “hard at the ball”, and always gave 110%. His playing career spanned some 250 games with the club. But Sam’s main contribution to the club was as an administrator.
He joined the club’s committee in the mid 1970’s and held the executive positions of Secretary and Treasurer for many years. These were turbulent times, and without Sam’s contribution, the club may not have survived. Not only did he oversee the club’s operations in these years, but through his father-in-law, Sam provided the venue for after game socialising and fundraising. In addition, Sam was one of the instigators in the club leaving the YCW League and joining the Eastern Suburban Churches League, which was subsequently absorbed by the Southern Football League
