Round 9
First XI
We travelled up to Bushy Park to attempt to solidify top spot on the ladder, the game got off to an indifferent start with the umpire deciding not to turn up, leaving us to umpire the match ourselves.
Bushy Park won the toss and they had a bat. Wickets were difficult to take, with us not being able to take multiple wickets at a time. Being sloppy in the field also proving costly as we dropped numerous chances.
The opening bowlers Bourkey and Fenton bowled an opening spell of 5 overs each with just the one break through. Jamma came on an instantly changed how the game was going getting regular chances and the eventual second wicket.
Binky bowled his 10 overs with the usual tight lines which resulted in him taking another two wickets. Jamma’s second wicket had them 5/178 with the dominant number three batsmen still at the crease. We hoped we were able to restrict him from the strike but poor bowling and fielding prevented that from happening.
At second drinks, we took a punt bowling the opening bowlers again to try to get another wicket that did not immediately prevail. Kirky came on in the 41st over and got results claiming a wicket, which proved vital as it put pressure on Bushy Park’s centurion to make the score even bigger. This proved his downfall as Fenton knocked him over in the 42nd.
Kirky then picked up his second, which, was shortly followed by Bourkey’s second as they we bowled them out for 241 in 45 overs. The 30 extras we bowled helped them go from a good score to a very good score.
Kirky 2/22
Binky 2/29
Bourkey 2/49
Jamma 2/61
Fenton 1/48
The inform Hoggett and Jamma opened the batting and we unfortunately had an early wicket fall with Hoggett nicking off for 11. Jamma and Ash rebuilt the innings putting on 60 at us in a reasonable position at 2/80.
Jamma continued his good form hitting a glorious 47 before edging a very wide delivery just before drinks. The downfall of Jamma proved costly as we the middle to lower order collapsed, Jamma fell with the score at 3/106. We lost the last 7 wickets for 35 runs thanks largely to batting blunders; this resulted in us being bowled out for 141. Losing the match and unfortunately top spot on the ladder.
Jamma 47
Ash 27
SECOND XI
With fill in captain Rowdy at the helm, we were determined to get back on to the winners list. Rowdy won the toss and we batted first, something that has been a rare occasion.
Unfortunately poor batting and a trigger happy umpire made batting difficult as we got off to a horror start losing 7/28. Stickers and Sam C put together a reasonable partnership getting the total past 50 before Stickers fell to make us 8/52, 8/52 quickly turned into all out for 55 in a terrible innings.
Stickers 16
To our credit defending such a low score we bowled well taking 4 wickets and making it difficult for St Aidan’s. We created chances and as a result made some inroads but ultimately defending 55 is never enough. Some very good fielding by Quinny and an outstanding catch by Toastie the highlights.
Wes 2/12 (8)
Brady 1/13
Tadhg 1/24
