Round 5,
First XI
The First XI hosted a terrific game of cricket on the weekend, with beautiful sunny weather, which contributed to lots of runs.
Bowling first and Lindisfarne jumped us with both opening batsmen hitting both our opening bowlers all over the park, this forcing the skip to change the bowling attack a lot sooner than wanting to. Dion and Binky came on next and faired only slightly better as the Lindisfarne opening batsmen made an impressive opening stand of 157.
After Dion bowled his 10th over Bink through the ball to Sid who in only a few balls managed to do what the bowlers before could not, in getting the opener out. The success of Sid saw Bink bring on Nobby to slow the game the down, which worked wonders. Early in Nobby’s spell came the wicket of Lindisfarne’s other opening batsmen and 2/176.
Sid and Nobby continued to toil away and it worked really well with Sid claiming the next two wickets to swing the momentum towards our favour. With wickets all of a sudden tumbling, the runs managed to dry up as the Lindisfarne number 5 and 6 batsmen looked to put in a rebuild. Tight bowling from Nobby caused frustration which lead to the next dismissal - Hoggett’s first stumping for the club.
The next partnership gave us a few headaches before Nobby took his 3rd and final wicket. Bink brought himself on to finish the innings – with that not going exactly to plan. The last few overs took the Lindisfarne total to an imposing 6/252.
Caleb 3/33
Nobby 3/34
Jamma 0/21
Our batting innings could not have gotten off to a better start with Hoggett and Jamma dominating the Lindisfarne bowlers hitting balls to all parts of the ground. We got an early scare when Jamma was dropped on 15, but that blunder was the only blemish in what was just about batting perfection. Prior to the drinks break, both batsmen had celebrated half centuries.
Zero down at drinks for 120 the openers continued doing their thing, obliterating the ball to all parts of the ground. Both batsmen impressing with risk free, technically beautiful strokes on both the off and leg side.
In the 22nd over Jammy brought up a well-deserved century only to be caught in the deep shortly after.Jammy’s departure brought about a small collapse with Hoggett falling in the next over and Dion not lasting too much longer, falling for just 6.
This left Nobby and Bourkey at the crease needing 75 runs from 25 overs. In a very patient partnership both batsmen managed to navigate the Lindisfarne bowling in a relatively risk free manner.
With 10 runs to go Bourkey fell trying to end the game quickly, leaving Nobby and Zac to finish the game off in what would be a memorable saint’s victory.
Jammy 102
Hogget 62
Nobby 34*
Bourkey 32
