Woodend/Hesket enjoyed a 26-20 win over Rockbank to get their season back on track after losing to Broadford in Round 9.
In a somewhat frustrating game, the Hawks took a while to get used to the way Rockbank played and it wasn’t really until the third and fourth quarter that the girls were able to get it all together and pull away from.
The Hawks certainly had many opportunities to score after the defensive end again were able to get lots of tips and intercepts but didn’t capitalise early. Thankfully this was something that improved as the game wore on. It was great to see improvement in bringing the ball down the court this week and the players in the attacking end implementing the work we had done at training.
Jazz Gardner continued her good form of late with a really strong game in GA. Jazz worked really hard in the circle to create space as Rockbank double teamed Alex. She also led well for the ball and played a consistent four-quarter game.
Courtney Arthurson was the key to the team getting the ball into a goalers, playing an attacking game in WA. She created lots of opportunities and fed the ball really well to Jazz and Alex.
Sarah Smith worked hard all game in GD, making if difficult for her opponent to get into the circle and continually offering a lead down the court.
Overall, it was a pleasing game although the team will need to really lift their game and intensity against Rupo this week.
The girls will need to be more assertive on court and bring a mindset which focuses on the task at hand, play with a determined attitude and you never know what can happen.
The Hawks have played at their best against teams above them, so Rupo brings a wonderful opportunity. Go Hawks!
