Seniors
The Seniors succumbed to a slick Old Carey side on Saturday in our first game in B Grade since 2006.
The first quarter gave a taste of what Premier B section is all about with the ball moving freely between both ends. Although Ben Phibbs was at his classy best, Carey were a little cleaner when going forward and took a 26-point lead into the first break.
Mazenod settled in the second quarter and started to look less like a C grade team and more like a B Grade contender. Rob Mann’s pace was proving to be an asset in the near-perfect conditions, and midfielders Dave Chamberlain and StuartIngliss worked their way into the game. Unfortunately, after pulling to within a kick, Carey kicked two late goals to hold a 15-point advantage at the long break.
The Nodders were flat in the third, and were punished for their lapse. The lead blew out to 45 points at the final change, but given the pace of the game, it did not seem an insurmountable margin.
The move of Sam Reed to the forward line sparked theNodders and they slammed on four goals in 10 minutes to re-ignite the contest, but it proved to be a bridge too far and Carey were able to settle and seal a 37-point win.

Reserves
The Reserves got off to a slow start under first-game coach, Ben Chamberlain, allowing Carey to three easy goals in the opening minutes. The match was an arm wrestle thereafter, but Mazenod were never quite able to close the gap, eventually falling by 20 points. Veterans Ben Woods andPaul Iacovangelo led the way and another old timer, DaveMaskill chimed in with two goals.

Thirds
The all-conquering threes team of 2013 faced one of the toughest tests in thirds football on the weekend, travelling to Toorak Park to take on Old Xaverians. Following the retirements of several key players over the summer the team was undermanned, but battled on manfully.
The threes are re-building and are still recruiting. If you still have a passion for the game, contact the club and get involved.
Under 19s
The Under 19s took on traditional rivals, Whitefriars, and did not disappoint. Apart from a skight skip in the second quarter, the Nodders controlled the game and recorded a comfortable 27-point victory.
