MATCH REPORT SUNDAY 17TH JUNE 2012
Panthers Blue played Wyndham at Williamstown and because Wyndham do not have a second team this year our Black team played Williamstown in a not for points match. Thank you Dave Cousins for taking over the Coordinators job for the day, your assistance on the day is very much appreciated. Dave filed two great match reports for the day.
MAZENOD BLUE 14.13.97 defeated WYNDHAM 1 6.1.37 at Williamstown .
What a start to the day as we travel over the bridge to sunny Williamstown. Not today though a bitter cold wind blew in from the sea, a light misty rain came and went the sun comes out again what a day it was to show.
A great effort by all to make it the ground to play wyndam for the first match. 15 players for the first game took to the field with super coach David Regan making a appearance after his time away. Chris Vergos coming back after a holiday.
Well the game started with Mazenod kicking 4.3 to 2.0 in the first quarter. It wasn’t a pretty game with some players playing as individuals and not as a team which had the super coach foaming at the mouth at the break. The second quarter saw one our players give away a 50 meter penalty in front of goal through being undisciplined. After not seeing the Blue team play for a couple weeks I was disappointed with the way they played. It seemed nobody was listening to the super coach as all he had said at the break fell on deaf ears with 1.3 kicked by mazenod to 2.0 wyndam.
Super coach gave all a good talking to at half time to get this team fired up and to play as a team. I wasn’t sure if it was mist or steam coming off him at the main break. The third quarter started and it was a different side out there. Team work was starting to happen. With 4.4 kicked to 0.0 the back line showing again all its strength in keeping the opposition quite. A nasty incident saw two players sent off for a little quite time on the sidelines.
The last quarter saw the boy’s play properly and dominate the quarter kicking 5.1 to 2.1 with the final score 14.13. 97 to 6.1. 37. There were some great passages of play with Duxy hand pass in front of goal, John Soles some big bumping runs and a nice snap for goal by Rod Petit .
Best players Jason Gannon, Rod Petit, John Soles, Peter Biscognin, Simon Pollock, Shaun Dux, Chris Vergos and Samson Samason. Goal Kickers Rod Petit 4, Simon Pollock 3, John Soles 3, Aaron Yaksender 2, Duxy and Peter Biscognin 1 each.
MAZENOD BLACK 5.14.44 defeated WILLIAMSTOWN 2 4.4.30 at Williamstown
The second game of the day saw some nervous moments as we waited for all the Black team to turn up with a full contingent 5 minutes before the start of the game. The boy’s came out to play even though this was just a scratch match and a big thank you goes out to Williamstown for playing Mazenod and as always a great clean game of football. The super coaches mentor Matty Johnston took control of the black team again and showed why he is so good with nobody on the bench until half way through the first quarter when cries of Rodgerrrrrr could be heard as Roger Winter turned up. With the chilly conditions Matt was making some superb changes around the ground to keep everybody warm. Daniel Hassan backed up and played another game and you could see how playing with the blue team has greatly improved his skills. He dominated all round the ground.
Corey Pollock tried to take on two of the Williamstown players and was gang tackled in front of goal but was still able to get the hand pass out to Daniel with a goal a result. Dan Oakley was playing a blinder until he went down in the last quarter with a ankle injury. Jack Morrison was playing like a man possessed, Nick Crilley played on the wing and didn’t stop running until Matt had to pull him off for a rest a great handball in the center from Nick to keep the ball in Mazenods hands.
Chris Johnson was unstoppable in the back line with Williamstown struggling to score against his defence. With some booming kicks from the backline up to the forward line. With Damien Cousins working across the center getting the ball forward and stopping it from getting to the backline. The swift feet around goal by Matty Anderson and Daniel Palmer was a joy to watch. Andrew Connor tried a checkside kick from the boundary when he was awarded a free, the skills these boy’s a showing have come along leaps and bounds. Anthony Distasio played a game of football that had the Mazenod bench in awe, with his running chasing and kicking. He was the absolute stand out. Marcel Vermulst kept peppering the goals all day but Williamstown had a solid fullback who kept stopping all the goals. Nick Distasio kicked a brillant first quarter goal to get the panthers started.
Final scores Mazenod 4.12.36 to Williamstown 2.2.14. Best players, Anthony Distasio, Damien Cousins, Dan Oakley, Toby Crook, James Hosken, Daniel Hassan, Chris Johnson, Marcel Vermulst, Goal Kickers, Nick Distasio 1 Daniel Hassan 3.
I would like to add that being Sharpie for the day was a great honour and the way both teams conducted themselves was great. But I am sorry that I didn’t give the pep talks like Sharpie during the breaks, but there is only one Sharpie. I also would like to thank everyone for their help today as well because it made it easier to try and fill Sharpies shoes.

PLAYERS TO QUALIFY FOR FINALS
. Our Blue team consist of 15 players with three interchange players only. (maximum 18 players)
If both coaches agree teams can play up to 18 players. If coaches cannot agree, the number of players on the field will be 15. Minimum of 12 to constitute an official game, if one side has only 12,13, or 14 players the other side is allowed to play 15 players. Because of this rule if a player plays more than 6 games in Panthers Blue he is unable to play finals in Panthers Black, plus to qualify to play in Panthers Black a player must have played a minimum 4 games in that team, our strategy therefore is to qualify every player to be eligible for finals footy in August, we will adjust team lists for the next few games. For our Black team, if both coaches agree teams can play up to 18 players, with no limit to the number of interchange players. Minimum of 10 players constitute an official fixture. Panthers Blue are limited to 3 only interchange. If we make the Grand Finals players are only allowed one game in one team, no player is allowed two games.
