Final Wrap of 2011
Just over 3 weeks ago the Club gathered as one at the Mulgrave Country Club to celebrate another year, and some wonderful individual and team successes. The club was extremely proud of the efforts of our Club XVIII team, led by Scott Azzopardi in winning the premiership. It was very fitting and great reward for club legend Walter Occhiuto to win the team’s Best and Fairest Award as he has for this moment in time announced he will put away his favourite Black, White and Blue jumper!
Another club favourite was honoured with Life Membership, that being Troy “Barge” Bridgland who has played and coached at the club for over 10 years. Barge also has announce he is stepping down as reserves coach for next season and will keep his time occupied on the general committee, along with Walter!
Listed below are all the award winners from the season. It was great reward that Sam Reed won his first senior Best and Fairest award after a very consistent year controlling the backline. He narrowly beat Jace Kelly who also had a stellar season playing every game. The evergreen Jake Beard enjoyed his best year of footy in a while finishing 3rd.
36 year old Damian Linden continues to defy his age and comfortably won the reserves award from Paul Iacovangelo.
It was very pleasing to see that current Mazenod student Patrick Flanagan won the U/19 award from Sam Jones. Pat played every game this year going from a tough defender to an attacking mid fielder. Sam Jones tasted senior football this year playing 3 games and we look forward to watching the development of these 2 players along with the rest of the U/19 playing list.

Congratulations and Thanks!
Everyone at the club was ecstatic and pleased to hear that Senior Coach Paddy Steinfort has landed a job with the Adelaide Crows in 2012. Paddy has made an enormous impact on everyone at the club with his football philosophies and teachings. He brought a big change in the culture of the playing group and was able to instil a belief and confidence in the team that saw it play finals for the first time in 4 years.
Everyone at the club had no doubt that Paddy had all the makings to go further with his coaching! We wish him every success in his new ventures and we hope to see him around the club during the season.
