On Friday October 4th at the Melbourne Racing Club De La Salle held its annual presentation night.
Club President Richard Williams thanked and recognised the contributions of the club volunteers who give up so much time and sacrifice their own needs to help make our club a well run, highly regarded and well respected Amateur football club within the VAFA community. Richard thanked in particular those retiring committee members, but also noted that they would be still serving the club too in the following years with Simon Humphrey, Leyla Hogan, Peter Waldron and Marty Kelliher all stepping off the committee.
As part of recognising the efforts that volunteers make to our football club Col Glover was formally recognised and his outstanding achievements and sacrifices to the club were acknowledged by all those in attendance in a career spanning back to when he first pulled on the Blue and Gold jumper in the first of his 255 games in 1960 to the last time he held an official capacity with De La which was as senior team manager in Rd 18 2013.
For the statistically minded Col’s service and record includes:
255 games – 181 senior games, 74 reserves,
Reserves coach 1976-77,
Reserve B & F 1972,
Runner-up senior B & F 1963,
President 1985-1987,
Club Secretary 1993 – 2008,
Senior team manager 1991-2013,
Club historian 1993-2013,
VAFA certificate of merit 1988,
Awarded Life membership De La Salle OCFC 1978,
Best Club person 1974,
VAFA media prize 2002, 2003, 2004,
Unfortunately it is almost impossible to list all the services that Col has performed for the football club over his 53 year involvement but it is safe to say that all service to the club will be, and is measured by his contribution. However, just reading through that list it is remarkable to think that all of these accolades could be awarded and all this service can be performed as a volunteer and it is testament to Col and probably more particularly to his wife Anne that he has been able to help our club become such a wonderful place.
The club also thanked retiring coach’s Greg McLoughlin (seniors), Simon Brown (Under 19 Blues) and Dom McInerney (reserves) for their efforts and also recognised Dom’s achievements of 2 premierships and a near miss with a runners-up.
