Seniors
After ploughing through inches of mud last week it was great to return to the much maligned but absolutely bone-dry Waverley Park.Kicking into a 3-4 goal breeze DLS started with overt enthusiasm with Luke “The Bull” Semmel dominating in the centre square providinggreat delivery to the forwards. Full back Tom Humphrey made a searching run along the outer wing and found Pickett on a fast lead. An accurate conversion opened the scoring, quickly followed by a goal to John Griffiths, a much missed key forward, playing his 1st senior game for 2013. Sam Pickett was proving a real handful early and delighted the fans. Collegians goaled through Corp with a free from a ruck scrimmage but DLS replied spontaneously with goals to Luke Semmel, Jake Williams, and a rejuvenated Matt Moore (what a difference having a tall marking target makes to the team) to establish a worthy lead of 24 points at qtr time. DLS started the stanza with the wind positively with Damien Hale playing only his 2nd Senior game this season, evading opposition with grace to goal only after 2 minutes and shortly after Nick Roberts joined the band of goal scorers for DLS to open up an impressive 36 point lead over the reigning premiers. Collegians obviously decided to stop the haemorrhage by pushing numbers back which, aided by DLS inaccuracy (4 successive behinds), stagnated play for about 10 minutes. Then SamPickett’s controlled kick from the angle and Matt Hine’s clever evasion added to Collegians misery and opened up a 52 point lead at the main break. Collegians opened spiritedly with Taft marking strongly on the lead to goal within a minute of the start. DLS steadied and added goals to Ben Humphrey (returningfrom injury), the irrepressible Charlie Haley and evergreen Michael Duggan. The damage could have been much worse if DLS had not been so profligate adding7 behinds to those goals. The final quarter was strange with Collegians, despite being 72 points down, seemingly intent on containment, passing the ball backwards deep into their defensive zone. The tactic proved futile as “The Bull” Semmel goaled followed by Tim Kovess (another returning from injury) and Skipper David Lowe to stretch the lead to a game high of 95 points. In the dying moments of the game Jack Vickers became the 14th DLS player to goal and Charlie Haley kicked his 2nd to become only the 3rd multiple goal scorer for DLS
A great win for a team at last getting back to somewhere near full strength having moved 47 players through senior ranks this season including 13 1st gamers. Of the recent debutants, under 19 player Mitch Carter was very impressive in the ruck in just his 3rd senior game.
The final home game next week against a rejuvenated St Bernards and with both clubs looking to finish the season on a high this should be cracker.

Reserves
Stitched up finals spot with a polished display. In a topsy-turvy season now look for some consistency in the run to September. Harry Haley the standout amongst a very prominent group of youngsters who figured in the best today.

19 Blues
Not disgraced against the top side with the scoreboard probably not doing justice to the closeness of the contest. Matt Harvey the best with Jordan Bull booting 4 goals.

19 Golds
We ventured out to St. Bedes on a very windy day. It was a must win game to keep the Golds final chances alive.
Unfortunately St.Bedes won the toss and were kicking with the howling wind and scored 7 goals to our 1 in the 1st quarter. Elliot Holden and Harry Zaia worked hard to defend into the wind. 2nd quarter saw we kicked 5 to St.Bedes 1 with Daniel Anastasiou and Damon Grant looking dangerous up forward. Darcy Craig and Dylan Kelly strong in defence and Nic Haliday and Aaron Hay winning the clearances. 3rd quarter saw St. Bedes kick 5 to our 1 goal with Jack Hanley and Jake Pironovo good forward and Hamish Curtis working hard in defence. All was set for a fighting last quarter and the Golds tried very hard to close the gap kicking 3 to St. Bedes 2 goals, falling short by 5 goals. Unfortunately this loss resigns Golds to 5th spot on the ladder and no finals this year as the percentage gap looks too much to make up.
