A sunny winters day saw Dally make the trip South to play the Eagles on their home turf. The Gingin Reserves side kicked the day off to a perfect start for the host town with an 82-point win over the Bulldogs. Best on ground for Gingin went to Alan Barry followed by Jack ‘Joe Dirt’ Mackey. Jack Haenni kicked 3 goals and had a good game, Kale Worth continues his outstanding form and Jordan Tai also played very well. For Dalwallinu, Tyler Barnes was awarded best on ground followed by Todd Carter, Scott Galbraith, Gareth Barnes and Stephen Waples.
The last encounter between the Gingin and Dalwallinu league sides went right down to the wire so both teams were ready for a good contest. With Gingin coming off an absolute ripper of a win against Toodyay the week prior, this game would reveal whether they could play consistently good football. From the very first bounce, Gingin looked one step ahead and delivered the ball cleanly into the forward line to give Geoff Rouse, Aaron White and Nathan Sims every opportunity to bag a couple of early goals. At quarter time, Gingin held a 4 goal lead and by half time a 7 goal lead. No doubt Dally knew that the home side would eventually make a mistake and in the third quarter, Gingin were slowed up heavily and were kept to just 3 goals while Dally kicked 3 of their own. Gingin’s Matthew Bycroft went off with another hamstring injury, as did Brayden Couper, and all of a sudden, despite the scoreboard, Gingin looked like they might have some issues. Unfortunately for Dalwallinu, Gingin managed to keep their run going and break away in the final term to finish with a 13 goal lead, with the final score reading Gingin 25.8 (158) to Dalwallinu 11.14 (80). Best on ground for Gingin was awarded to Rheece Bartel followed closely by his little brother, Bronson. It was a special occasion for both the Bartel and Cocking families with all 3 of their sons playing in the league side (see photo). Aaron White was very good and kicked 6 goals, almost beating Geoff Rouse’s 7 goals for the day. New club recruit and local boy Geoffrey Watson was outstanding in the ruck and played well in other positions. For Dalwallinu, Brad McNeil was awarded best on ground followed by Logan Hyde, Gav Carter, Joshua Ball and Will Roach. Thanks to Toodyay’s win over Calingiri on the same day, Gingin now move up one spot to sit in second on a very tight League ladder.
