Coach Christian Kelly may have been crying panic stations at last Thursday nights training as he became fully aware of his team's ins and outs, importantly the latter, but no doubt he was impressed come Sunday's victory against top side Dowerin. Christian was missing from the side himself, together with backline players Nathaniel Martin, Alan Barry, Mitchell Cocking and Bruce Chisholm. Also out the side through a knee injury was Andrew Fewster and rib injured Kirk Bartel. Moving into the forward line and one might believe the absence of Glenn Britten and Sean O'brien surely may hinder the side's winning streak. This was not the case and the sides win can be credited to the players pulled up from the Reserves side determined to show their capability. Into the side came young-gun Mikey Polette who snapped one of his infamous goals under pressure. Another standout in Grameme 'Polly' Maloney who picked up where he left off in his ability to be a reliable backman and more than capable of holding his own. Jeffrey Cheriton continued his reliable form down back and Andrew Yukich gave his all. The second contribution to the sides win was the continual improvement of ruckman Jason Wilhelm. Jason has cemented his spot as number 1 ruckman in the side and in a statement following the game said 'I am proud to be an Eagle'. Other league players that stood up in absence of their injured team mates were Rheece Bartel, Ben King and Dylan Eiffler, who each played their roles in running Dowerin off their feet. Gingin's fitness was put to the test and they came out on top with a 40 point win over the Tigers.
The Gingin reserves side came away with yet another win. After the League took their pickings, Coach Paul Fewster was pulling at shoestrings to get enough men on the oval. His prayers were answered in the arrival of a couple of Eagles veterans who proved they aren't (quite) past their use-by-dates. 1997 premiership playes Glenn Rule and Ashley Watson pulled on their boots to come away with the win and, no doubt, sore bodies. Stephen Fewster, Craig Brocklehurst and South African Brent Shaw also upped the teams average age. However it was the team's regulars that stole the show. Jarrod Carter was named best on ground, closely followed by Paul Fewster. Tyson Greene continued on his outstanding form and provided youthful legs that ran all day. Bradley Cook and Luke Gillett were also reliable and helped Gingin come away with a 66 point win.
Gingin now has 2 byes in a row. Landmark Country Week starts on Thursday the 12th of July. Gingin representatives currently selected in the Mortlock side are Rheece Bartel, Geoff Rouse, Chris Samata, Kirk Bartel, Dylan Eiffler and Nathaniel Martin. We wish the boys good luck.
