A fallen tree across the road and some flying scrap metal didn't hinder Gingin players and supporters arrival at Toodyay Oval. It was the oval that came off second best on Sunday. Soaked with rain it looked worse for wear and resembled a mud pit after two well-fought games. The reserves team learnt very quickly that it would be the team that kept their feet the best that would win the game. And thats precisely what they did. They came away with a 41 point lead over the Lions and continue their winning streak into the second home-away round of the season. Andrew Yukich continued his stella form as did reliable Jeffrey Cheriton who fought hard all day. Adam 'Aub' Trinder came back into the side and proved he hasn't lost his touch and Blake Cocking was outstanding in particular when contesting the football. The team played smart in unusual conditions and this was what won them the game.
The league game to follow was one that had been a hot topic in the week prior. With Toodyay sitting just above Gingin on the ladder, the Eagles had a lot to prove and a chance to overtake the Lions and cement their spot in second position. The wind and rain showed no signs of clearing but Gingin managed to stay in front the entire game and come away with a 27 point lead at the final siren. Ben King was slick and smart with the footy. Craig Ellar and Jack Woodruff were reliable across the backline and through the middle of the ground. Ruckman Jason Wilhelm was voted fourth best on the day, his first award, and showed outstanding fitness as he ran all over the ground. A hard day for anyone tall let alone 7ft Jason but he stood up to the task and came home a winner. Congratulations Jase!
Gingin host Dalwallinu at home this Sunday. Dally weren't looking great up until last weekend when they had a narrow loss to top of the ladder Wongan-Ballidu.
