With a testing game against Wongan last week and a trip to Calingiri, one might think that the Gingin Eagles might be a little slow off the mark when they were to get up and go again yesterday. But a struggling Calingiri side and an officially in-form Eagles saw two very one-sided games of football being played out. The Gingin Reserves side kept their opponents goaless while they kicked 26.24 (180). The young-guns of the side in Andrew Yukich and Jordin Tai were given free-reign to carve up the midfield while small forward Mikey Polette showed flare with multiple snap kicks at goal. Jaxon Greene fought hard down back, helped out by veteran Jarrad "JC" Carter. Ever reliable Jarrad Sewell booted 7, Jordan Tai 4, Aaron Crofts 3 and Andrew Fewster 2 sharing the kicks with a total of 13 different goal scorers on the day.
The Gingin League side continued their form also with a 168 point win, 27 goals 29 points to Calingiri's 3 goals 5. From the very first ball-up, Gingin played with professionalism and class. American Jason Wilhelm played his best game this season and kicked his very first goal for his new club. Credit goes to Jason for his improved discipline and even saw him awarded (instead of penalised) a 50m penalty for a late hit, putting him 30m in front of goal and resulting in the highly celebrated goal. Jason continues to improve each week in his work around the ground and his competitiveness is a great asset to the team. Best player on the day was Rheece Bartel who was outstanding in the centre clearances and decision making in kicking into the forward line, giving the forwards every opportunity to kick goals. Rheece also bagged four goals himself and, who knows, maybe even overcame his curse of woeful kicking from set shots at goal. Dylan Eiffler showed class as did red-heads Chris "Bluey" Samata and Craig "Rusty" Ellar. Speaking of redheads, much loved larrikin of the club Bruce Chisholm kicked his first goal this season which saw the Gingin supporters up on their feet as well as his teammates run from all over the ground to celebrate. Alan Barry and new-guy Luke Hendricks were handy across half-back pushing up into the midfield when needed. Geoff Rouse kicked 7 goals (from many more shots) but got the job done. A team effort was what stood out at the end of the day and the season is looking more positive as we head to the half way mark of the first home-away series next weekend.
This SATURDAY the 2nd of June the boys are finally at home taking on Goomalling. Goomalling have had a sturdy start to the season and will no doubt give everything they've got. Be sure to come down and support both sides as they, hopefully, put on a good show. Photos of all games this season will be posted shortly.
