A talented basketballer and sprinter in his youth, Jason played for Nilma Darnum in the West Gippsland region before earning a VFL contract for Geelong in 2006. Jason won the VFL's Fothergill-Round Medal as the league's best young talent before being picked up with the Geelong's 38th pick in the 2006 Rookie Draft. In 2007, Jason was named in the VFL's Team of the Year and came 3rd in the Geelong VFL best and fairest before being elevated to the senior list for season 2008. Jason won the VFL best and fairest at the Cats in season 2008 but unfortunately could not retain his spot on the Geelong senior list, Jason was later drafted by the Port Adeliade Football Club with pick #78 in the 2008 AFL Draft, finishing his AFL playing career in 2011. After his AFL career, Jason Davenport joined the North Shore Football Club, where he played and served as senior coach until 2017.
In 2018, Jason joined the Carlton Football Club as a development coach. Jason joins the Oakleigh Chargers Football Club as Head coach for season 2021, Combined with his role as Vic Metro head coach Jason brings knowledge, experience and enthuasim to the role where he will oversee all Boys and Girls programs.
