BENDIGO PIONEERS - 2.4.16
EASTERN RANGES - 4.9.33
On the road in Bendigo, Eastern Ranges’ girls were able to continue their winning ways with a 17-point victory over the Pioneers on Tuesday.
The first half was a fantastic display of defensive organisation once again, as Eastern did not concede a single point until the third quarter.
The first goal of the day went to the competition’s leading goalscorer Laura McClelland, after receiving a free kick on a tight angle two minutes into the game.
Despite Eastern scoring just the one goal per quarter, the work of the defence meant the margin was always more or less comfortable enough to work with.
A clever bit of crumbing behind the pack gave Jade McCormick her first goal of the season in the third quarter, while Mikala Cann’s determination under extreme pressure in the goalsquare earned her a goal as well in the final term.
The victory maintains Eastern’s unbeaten start to the season, and sees the girls in third place on percentage behind fellow undefeated teams Geelong Falcons (1st) and Northern Knights (2nd).
Some of the best performers included Lauren Szigeti, Marlee Wandin, Emerson Woods, Chelsea Delbridge, Paige Buruma, and Marina Taverna.
The day’s goalkickers were:
L McClelland 2
M Cann
J McCormick
Round five is against the bottom-placed Western Jets at Williamstown, with the first bounce at 12:15PM. Shortly afterwards at 2:00PM is the boys game between the same teams.
