Youngsters meet Carlton stars
Thursday 8th July, a group of Central Victorian children will tour Visy Park, the home of the Carlton Football Club. Even more exciting for the youngsters will be the chance to meet and greet some of the Blues, including Senior Coach Brett Ratten, and some of their star players.
Many of the 7 to 15 year old children who took the trip to Melbourne for the day were affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, with the tour presenting a chance to take in some advice from the players and see behind the scenes of an elite sporting club.
Cindy McGregor of the Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre praised the joint efforts of local company McKern Steel along with Bendigo Pioneers Football Club for arranging the trip, saying, “The trip is a very special opportunity for these kids. Not only is it a chance to enjoy themselves for a day, but I’m sure there will be plenty of tips and advice to take home with them. The work of Michael McKern from McKern Steel and Ray and Leigh Byrne from the Bendigo Pioneers in organising the day is greatly appreciated.”
Jo McGann of St Luke’s said, “It’s wonderful to see the local community support their young people, and I know the kids are really excited about the trip.”
