2017 Football Dept. Update

To all our Kenmore Bears Players, Parents/Guardians, Current and Future Members;

Whilst we are effectively in the AFL off season, a lot has been happening in the background at both AFLQ and the Kenmore Juniors in readiness for the 2017 season. The purpose of this communication which is a little longer than normal, is to update all our members with important information relating to not just the new season but also what the club is offering all our current and potential new players in the lead up. We are also offering some exciting rewards for early registration and encouraging other friends to join our club so please take the time to read the following:

The AFLBJ in association with AFL Queensland and the AFL itself, have decided that youth football will be run as U12, U14 and U16 competitions from 2017. This is not an uncommon age group structure in the world of AFL, certainly not unique to Qld and one in which your Football Committee supports. We believe this change will further assist clubs in establishing and maintaining teams by having those teams better aligned to their respective level of grading while subsequently allowing individual players regardless of their personal stage of development, to participate on a near equal footing as their friends and other team mates. Participation will always be at the forefront at the Kenmore Bears followed by individual development as both players and members of our community.

Based on the new youth boys competition age structure, continued growth of our Juniors and exciting expansion and development of our girls football program, we are very pleased to be able nominate the following teams and coaches to date for the 2017 season.

  • Boys U12: 2x Teams coached by Adrian Hooper & Peter Loft
  • Boys U14: 2x Teams coached by Cameron Buchanan & Brent Warren
  • Boys U16: 1x Teams coached by Liam Anderson & Paul Odgers
  • Girls U11: 1x Team (coach to be announced)
  • Girls U13: 1x Team coached by Sarah Belton (Current Player & Student)
  • Girls U15: 1x Team coached byJessica Sullivan (Current Player & Student)
  • Girls U17: 1x Team (coach to be announced)

We are very fortunate that all our experienced youth boys coaches are not just previous and or current AFL players, but Kenmore Club people and parents with a shared passion for the game and our club. Similarly and again in conjunction with our head girl's coach Jess Sullivan, the club will continue to pursue current AFL players with a teaching and education background to further enhance and support the growth of girls AFL at our Club.

Given the interest and success experienced prior to the 2016 season, a number of junior and youth coaches have kindly made their time available to reintroduce this program again for all junior and youth boys and girls. The program is certainly not compulsory however it is free of any cost and aimed at providing an opportunity for current and potential future players to have some quality time, practice and individual instruction in the basic skills and understanding of the game while introducing concepts of fitness, stretching/flexibility and health and diet. Please see below times and dates, to participate please email following details (Player Name, Gender, DOB, Club in 2016, Medical Conditions, Main Parent/Guardian with contact mobile phone number) to footballdirector@kenmorebears.com.au

On-line registrations are open now and via our website www.kenmorebears.com.au or by clicking here. As previously indicated awards and prizes are offered for both early registration of 2016 players and for current players and or members who invite and register new players to the club. Please note, intentionally soliciting players from other clubs is not the Kenmore way and against AFLBJ rules. We would however encourage our players and members to introduce both AFL and our club to friends and family who aren't familiar with the game to come and give it a try or to those looking to switch sports and or clubs.

  • Early Registrations: If registered by 6.00pm Sunday 29th of January 2017 you go into the draw to win a night for two staying at any property in the TFE Hotel Chain in Australia
  • Registering a Friend: If you introduce a friend to the club who subsequently registers as a player for 2017 in U8's or above, you receive a free Events Cinema/Movie Gift Card to the value of $25.

Again apologies for the length of this message but as you have just read there has been a lot of information to get through. It's a very exciting time for the club both on and off the playing field with the majority of our dedicated coaches continuing on into 2017, a focused football program to support and further develop and advance our players and a much expanded new committee in what will be the clubs 50th Anniversary Year.

Please feel free to email me at footballdirector@kenmorebears.com.au should you have any further questions or concerns.
