2016 Girls Program Head Coach

The Bears are very lucky to have Jess Sullivan on board for 2016 as the head coach of the girls footy program.  Jess is a current player with UQ, has represented the Northern Territory in national carnivals and has worked as a development officer for AFL NT and is a level 2 qualified coach. Jess' skills, experience and teaching style will be vital to our club as we start an exciting new era. Read below for a message from Jess and a bit more about her footy experience:

"I'm really looking forward to being involved in the Kenmore Bears girls' football program. I didn't get the opportunity to play club football at a junior level, so I know how important it is that clubs like Kenmore provide these programs, and it's a real privilege to be part of it. I hope you're all as excited as me for the season ahead!

I grew up on a cattle station 400km south of Darwin in the NT and attended boarding school in Alice Springs, where I was first introduced to AFL through the school girls' team. I trained with the team for two years before another school finally started a team so we had someone to play games against! I started playing senior football when a women's league started in Alice Springs the year I turned 16, then when I finished school I moved to Darwin and worked for AFLNT for two years, while playing in the NTFL. My work at AFLNT included running school football clinics for children aged anywhere from 3 to 18 and facilitating junior programs. Highlights of my career include winning a premiership with the Alice Springs football club in 2012, captaining the NT schoolgirls to our first win at a national carnival in 2012 and assistant coaching the NT Indigenous girls' Kickstart team in their national premiership in 2013. At the moment I'm living the football dream and playing two seasons a year - one for UQ in the QWAFL during winter and the other for the Wanderers Eagles in the NTFL when I'm back in Darwin for the summer."
