U13 Match Report

"I'm not relieved this week, I'm very proud of the 18 that put on the jersey against 22 on a big ground on a hot day.

We turned up with the bare 18 including Under 11 Henry Spry who put up his hand to help for the third time this year. Thanks Henry you more than held your own and should be stoked.

We played some very good footy in the first quarter, moving the ball quickly, while looking for a team mate in a better position. Mulvi was a great focal point at centre half forward and won nearly every contest. Ash was fantastic on a wing giving us run while using the ball well. Tom S is relishing playing at full forward and was very dangerous around goal. Isaac, Hamish, Zac and Jack were on top in the middle despite not winning the rucks.
The second quarter was more of the same, Getting the ball forward and keeping it in the forward 50 for long periods. This is in part due to Jack Os defensive pressure along with Macca and Isaac B. JT turned it on by being a target for the switch and running and using the ball well. Mulvi and Tom S were creating havoc forward while the mids kept the ball locked in. When it got out Daniel did a great job at centre half back completely dominating his opponent. Charlie showed a lot of courage playing on with sore ribs as he knew the team needed him. Thanks Charlie. We are dominating games but still struggling to really apply the scoreboard pressure we should with over 70% of the ball.

We went into half time about 10 points up. Unfortunately we thought we'd done enough and despite having 70% of the ball did not capitalise due to a small drop off in effort.
The team was challenged at three quarter time and they responded magnificently. Everyone contributed in the last quarter particularly, Tom S, Jack Hamish, Ash, JT, Dan, Zac and Isaac.

The end result a good win by nearly 5 goals.
Overall I was very pleased with our switching of the ball and the run from behind to create options. Our forwards are getting better at working as a group, while our backs just don't want to concede anything. I challenged our mids who worked very hard today with little rest.
Next week is a challenge against the second top team, one we are up to if we bring our best and have a full squad."
