Tigers Launch Season 2016

The Mayne Tigers Annual Jersey Presentation Night was held at the Hamilton Hotel H Lounge last Saturday night in front of a packed room full of the Tiger faithful.

Club President Russell Ditchburn lead off the night with a stirring address to get the club on the way on the chase for three in a row. The Mayne Tigers enter their 92nd season having never experienced three consecutive premierships in their long history although they have completed the double on six previous occasions.

After two miraculous seasons in which the club experienced premierships in both grades, nobody in Tigerland is under any illusions about the monumental task ahead to climb the mountain again. However that does not mean that the club won’t be doing everything in their power to make that a possibility.

Coaches Clint “Coojee” Brunnenmeyer and Danny Craven both set the scene outlining the tremendous pre-season and acknowledging the effort put in by everyone to be ready for round 1.

The excitement is all about the youth entering the Tiger ranks with the likes of Jamie Ivers in the tall timber and Jack Coghlan in the running department creating plenty of discussion while Jasper Craven looks to back up his premiership first season in 2015.

Mayne Tigers junior Josh Griffiths will look to cement a position in the Tiger forward line after a premiership debut in the reserves in 2015.

It wasn't all about youth though with veterans Andrew Housego and Luke Faulkner sitting back enjoying the talent on show during the evening. Housego will look to get closer to the club games record now that he is sitting on 263 and the record sits at 281 while Faulkner finished on 93 games for the Tigers at the end of 2015 and will look to crack the 100 game milestone this season.

Reserve Grade Coach Josh Duffy entertained the crowd with some witty introductions of his young charges to round out the formalities of the night.

The night finished with some great live music to top off a successful function and set the scene for another big season.

The Tigers kick off the year at the Den this Saturday against Sunshine Coast rivals Noosa who have recruited well to look like strong contenders again in 2016. The Mayne Tigers will have to be at their best to challenge them.

The day will have special significance with the Annual Ladies Day as a highlight for this day in support of the McGrath Foundation once again.

Make sure you head down to the Den to catch this big day and make a donation at the fundraiser.
