Daly leads Tigers to Victory over Hornets

The middle of the year has not been a happy time for the Tigers in recent years so often succumbing to horror runs of injuries and university study commitments. With fifteen players out of the squad, there were some changes required but this year the Tigers depth is much stronger.

Coach Daly made it clear to all at training this past week that it was critical that the team get off to a good start as the Hornets would be looking to take a scalp.

The Tigers duly complied commencing with a six goal burst with no reply in the first term and the scene was then set. Daly led from the front once again accumulating over 40 possessions driving his team forward at every chance. He was ably supported around the middle by Gabe Dillon in an equally strong effort.

The Hornets weren’t daunted by the first quarter burst and set about pegging it back courageously coming at the Tigers for the rest of the day.

Luke Faulkner had another big day kicking nine goals while veteran Andrew Housego was not showing any signs of age taking high marks all day and getting amongst the scores with five majors as well.

Tom Falconer was visiting for the weekend and was happily brought into the side to play like he had never left to make his usual impression on the midfield and forward line. Down back it was business as usual with Brown, O’Malley, Stephens and Hartley shutting things down as they developed.

Scores: Mayne 20.18.138 d Aspley 9.3.57
Goals: L Faulkner 9, A Housego 5, T Murtha 2, J Duffy, T Falconer, L Bourke, J Maher 1.

Best: L Faulkner, G Dillon, A Housego, S Daly, J Duffy, T Falconer.
