UNDER 15 SEMI FINAL VICTORY
In what can only be described as true nail biter Eltham’s Under 15 girls pulled off a magnificent victory last Sunday. In a game characterised by skill and determination both teams gave spectators a truly memorable performance.
At no time during the game was there a certainty either team would win as the margin remained close and the lead see-sawed. The game, highlighted by fast breaks and then dominant defence, came to the pen-ultimate second with Footscray ahead by one goal – and Eltham scored.
This result truly tested the reserves of both the team and coach when over time saw the teams still locked together. But once again defence, dictating terms forced a turnover, a fast break and the ball in the back of the net from an Eltham stick.
This team has been progressing in its skills and love of lacrosse for a few years now. Under the guidance of Deanne Mongaue-Buchanan and the watchful eye of Kendrea Kendall, these two ladies as well as coaching game and stick skills, taught the girls the subtleties of the game and instilled in them the emphasis of Lacrosse being a team sport, and the pride of playing for Eltham. Under the tutorage of Jai Arambatzis this year, the training, ups and downs have brought them to the ultimate – The Grand Final.
Some girls have played many games, others just a few – some girls still in the Under 13 age group. Their highlight will be Sunday 4th September at Chadstone.
Michellie Arambatzis, Emily Camm, Ruby Mileto, Emily Nowland, Isobel Pain, Jessica Pham, Sasha Pollnitz, Kate Poulier, Brooke Powell, Madelyn Smith, Sophie Lee, Mollie Perceval, Ashley Maher, Bridget Bassett-Smith, Bess Ratje and Danielle Wiles.*
*Eltham 15 d Footscray 14 – Sunday 21st August, 2011 at Chadstone Lacrosse Club.
