Lacrosse: It’s pretty common for parents to spend much of their weekend at junior sport, playing taxi, chopping oranges or volunteering in any number of roles. But it’s not all that often that a parent follows in their child’s footsteps, unless you are Rob Brown of the Chadstone Lacrosse Club Division 3 men’s side. Chadstone has been working hard to recruit new players to both its senior and junior ranks, and it’s starting to pay dividends. For the first time in more than five years the club has the numbers to field three senior men’s sides. Following the example of son Lucas (under-15 boys) and daughter Zalie (under-13 girls), both accomplished goalkeepers, Rob Brown recently played his first game of lacrosse, in goal, in the Round 2 match against Malvern. It was a big day for the club stalwart who, previously, was more likely to be seen cooking the barbecue, manning the bar or setting up fields than actually playing on them. “It’s all about working together and growing our great game for the future,” a Chadstone club official said. “We have a great sport and just want to share it and our club with everyone, no matter what their ability or experience.”
