U15 Boys MCC v Camberwell at Camberwell Eric Raven Reserve
It was a good day for lacrosse as it was nippy but sunny day.
Camberwell had 15 players once the game commenced, most of their team were mature U15 players (second years) who seemed to be a head taller than the MCC boys. Camberwell did have a couple of U13 players to help.
Whereas MCC on the other hand had 11 players and were missing two players.
In the previous game against, Camberwell saw a 10 to 6 victory over MCC and never lost the lead. At that game the MCC boys didn’t have confidence in their ability and failed to control their nerves.
This game was very different with the match being a nail bitter.
The first quarter was even with both teams scoring 3 goals each. The second quarter was similar with both teams scoring 2 goals each. However, it seemed that MCC had the ball in their forward line for much of the time. At half time it was 5 all. The third quarter was a better quarter for MCC with the majority of the play in their attack half and scoring 3 goals to Camberwell’s 1. In the last quarter MCC leading by 2 goals were getting tied. The Camberwell scored a goal and then MCC restored it’s lead. Camberwell get another goal from a turnover, which reduced the MCC’s lead. For the next few minutes MCC had control of the ball but didn’t convert. In the last 3 minutes Camberwell got a turnover and scored. The game was tied, and the ball changes ends a few times before the bell sounds the end of the match.
It was great to see the improvement from the first game. In this game they never lost the lead and had a very good opportunity to win. There are aspects of MCC game that they need to work on which comes with playing more close games and maturity.
Game stats:
Matt Saxon 1 goal 1 assist
Christian Iuliano 2 goals.
Christian and Matt won most of the face-offs.
Women’s B Grade MCC/Bendigo v Newport at Caulfield Park
Bendigo had four of their players taking the field and they were: Abbey Saxon, Abigail O’Sullivan, Jessica Iuliano and Morgan O’Meara.
It was a sunny day to begin with, but it become overcast very quickly.
MCC/Bendigo had 11 players to Newport’s 16 players.
The first term was a one-sided affair with Newport scoring 5 goals to 1. Abigail scored the only goals from a great pass from Jazz. The second quarter was better, restricting Newport to 3 goals, but unfortunately the team didn’t score. Newport were leading 8 goals to 1 at the main break.
The team started very well after the main break with MCC/Bendigo scoring the first two goals. However, Newport took over by finishing the quarter with 4 goals. The forth term had Abigail score her second goal from a great pass from Gubby. Newport replied with 2 goals for the quarter. The final scores were 14 to 4, but the girls had a better second half.
This Newport team are always in finals and expects to be in finals. Our Bendigo girls are continually improving and will have their measure in the not too distant future.
