Women Play Lacrosse – A History of the International Field Game
_____________________________________________
Jim Calder & Ron Fletcher are the co-authors of a new book “Women Play Lacrosse – A History of the International Field Game” – which was launched for the first time in Scotland in 2015 during the FIL U19 World Championship. This book captures the 125-plus years of history of women’s field lacrosse. Readers will get the inside stories on some of the international stars (Jen Adams & Sue Sofarnos) and builders of the game and they’ll receive a comprehensive look at the organizations and rules that have governed the amazing growth. It is the only book of its kind ever published.
A short list of material covered in this book includes: the game’s early beginnings, structure and direction of the game, early touring on both sides of the Atlantic, survival of the game through WW11, a look at some of the most famous post-war tours, Title IX and the emergence of the USA as the world power, the creation of world championships and expansion of the game to nations such as Australia, Canada, Japan and the Haudenosaunee.
There is only a limited quantity of this hard-cover table book available for sale within Australia. We would like to offer Member Associations and Clubs the opportunity to purchase some of these unique books for the special price of AUS$30 each which makes this a really GREAT buy! (On-line purchases from the USA will cost US$29.95 + 5% shipping and taxes ~ AUS$55).
The books have been distributed to the State Associations in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, thus avoiding additional postal costs for purchasers.
“Women Play Lacrosse – a History of the International Field Game” is a must for all women who have played the game and all lacrosse fans that are interested in its history. The book would make a perfect gift/award for any player or lacrosse enthusiast particularly with end of seasons rapidly approaching and Xmas not too far away!!
Books can be purchased by completing the order form. Any questions can be directed to Fiona Clark (fiona2@iinet.net.au) on behalf of Lacrosse WA. Thank you.
