The Chittering JFC Broncos and Swans District are breaking down barriers for kids living with disabilities in the suburbs of Bullsbrook, Chittering and Muchea thanks to the delivery of the Chittering JFC All Abilities Auskick Centre. The 6 week program is designed to provide disengaged children, aged 5 to 12 with the chance to connect to NAB AFL Auskick through the delivery of a series of game-based drills aimed at developing basic football skills and promoting self-esteem. The program encourages the active participation of parents and siblings to generate a positive family environment.
The program was delivered by Swans District Manager, Isaac Stewart in partnership with Chittering JFC coaches, players and staff including President, Ian Hall, Secretary, Alan Nairn and Year 12 players, Ben Gillard, Leigh Andrews, Nic Groom and TJ Briggs. The innovative new program was proudly supported by Swans District Key Partner, Ace Cinemas who kindly supplied participants and parents alike with a swathe of caps and cinemas passes. The successful delivery of the program has marked a key stepping stone in the Swans District’s plans to develop greater access to junior community club pathways for kids living with disabilities.
Chittering JFC has established itself as a best practice model for other junior community clubs across the Swans District with its pioneering approach to inclusive practices, which was recognized with gold level accreditation in the Swisse AFL Quality Club Program at the Chittering JFC Sponsorship Night recently. But, Chittering JFC hasn’t stopped the momentum with plans to work with the Shire of Chittering and Swans District towards developing disability access points at Muchea Arena to enhance the breadth of its future participation base.
Karen Smith from Ace Cinemas praised the success of the program. "We love to support the community and this program has been very rewarding for us and we look forward to it becoming bigger and better in 2014," said Smith.
