The Ainslie Football Club launched the 2008 season campaigns of the
Seniors, Reserve Grade, Third Grade and U18, Women's and Junior teams
at a function on Thursday, 27th March 2008.
The function was
held in the Function Centre of the Ainslie Football & Social Club,
Wakefield Avenue, Ainslie and was well attended by players, past
players, sponsors, supporters, juniors and families.
Senator Kate Lundy attended and spoke on the evening which was very well received by the gathering.
AFC
President, Ian Muir welcomed all to the evening and then spoke of the
Club's values to which all involved in the Club espouse. Ian then
announced the fantastic news that Ainslie would again field a 3rd Grade
side after a season without a "3rds". The 3rds have always been a big
and important part of the Club and all involved were thrilled to have a
3rd grade side again.
The Club's Development Manager,
Linda Muir, spoke of the exciting year ahead for the juniors and the
community and school work the Club conducts. There were several
juniors present on the evening which was great to see. Two members of
the U12s team modelled some of the Club's merchandise which is
available now.
In the absence of Coach Justin Fromm due to
work commitments, the Women's team captain, Fiona Van De Made spoke on
behalf of the Women's team. Fiona paid tribute to outgoing coach and
ACTWAFL Life Member, Shane Gnaden, for his years of devotion to the
Ainslie Women's team and the ACTWAFL. Fiona then went on to talk about
the great year ahead - great numbers, great attendance at trainings and
a challenge to the mens' teams that they will beat them in all social
events in 2008.
Trevor Treloar, 3rd Grade Coach, spoke of
the great attendance an commitment of the 3rd Grade team members and
the anticipated great season ahead. It's just fantastic to see former
3rd Grade players Joe Mann and Gavin Pound working with current players
such as Ben MacCormack all combining to make a fun-filled and dedicated
team.
Wayne Cook, Reserve Grade Coach, spoke of the fantastic
efforts of his team in 2007 and the excitement of the year ahead.
Wayne, fresh from the experience of the AFL National Coaching
Conference, understands not only match day strategies but also the
holistic Club focus.
