Ainslie have won the 2008 U14 Div 2 Premiership after defeating Gungahlin. The Final was a very even game with both teams playing some very good football. Gungahlin’s height caused Ainslie some problems but Ainslie’s ruckman battled hard to give the team some ball out of the centre. At the end of the first quarter scores were level and only 1 point separated them at half time. Gungahlin put on the pressure in the third term to open up the biggest lead of the game. However Ainslie did not give in and fought back through their small running players and scored some late goals to only be down by 4 points at three quarter time. In the last quarter Ainslie’s backline played desperate footy to hold Gungahlin goal-less. The forwards and on-ballers had plenty of run left and with good ball movement were able to kick 4 goals to run out winners by 20 points. Final scores were Ainslie 11.8-74 to Gungahlin 7.12-54. Goal-kickers for Ainslie were Angus Nolan with 5, Matthew Ganley 2, James Weir 2, Blake Gambale 1 and Todd Ford 1. Ainslie team had many good players and it was really a great team effort. Todd Ford was awarded the James Keegan Medal for best player on the ground.
The U12s were very gallant against a strong Marist outfit. Ainslie dominated the game early but had trouble scoring a goal. Marist hit back before half time to lead by a couple of goals at half-time. After the break Ainslie again played some good team football to close the gap but in the end Marist were too good and ran out winners.
