TIGERS TOO GOOD!
The Tri–colours ventured over the border for the last of the home–away series to play arch–rival the Queanbeyan Tigers whose season would come to an end at the end of the day after failing to make the finals. On a hard and fast track the Tigers won the toss and kicked with the breeze and from the outset were ferocious at the ball and the man. They had the Tri–colours on the back foot as they continually won the ball out of the middle through giant ruck man Jaques who was playing his last game for the club. At quarter time the tigers led by 30 points and the second quarter saw the Ainslie boys still under physical pressure. Ainslie were unable to get their running game going as the Tigers kicked 3 goals to 2 to maintain their 30 point lead at the main break.
The second half saw a more committed Ainslie attack the game with a bit more passion but still unable to bridge the gap even though they dominated the first 10 minutes of the third stanza to go into the last quarter still in arrears by 34 points. The last quarter was much of the same and saw both sides kick 2 goals each and a comfortable 36 points win to the boys from Tigerland.
The Ainslie boys now have a week off to prepare for the first semi final against a confident Eastlake who seem to be performing at the right end of the season. The mighty Tri-colours will certainly need to bring it’s A-grade game if it wants to participate further in September.
Best players for Ainslie were wingman Tom Daniel, ruck rover Dale Argall, defender Macfarlane and forwards Hughes and Crook.
