Finally after several weeks we came out for the 1st qtr ready to go and it was an even tussle for about the first 10 minutes and even though we continued to work hard we fell off the pace just a little bit when Woden kicked an easy goal and then we let them score a few more. But even so, overall the effort was quite good; we just did not work hard enough, especially in the defensive direction. Once again for the 2nd qtr the effort could not be question because statistically, we were almost even, with a fair share of our players matching it with their opponents, but we could not mount any scoreboard pressure.
The 3rd qtr was very similar to the second, but this time we did manage six scoring shots (pity only one was a goal). Our defence held up very well in the last qtr and we made several attacking runs from the backline and the fwd line fought really hard to keep it in, but we just couldn’t convert. Overall a good qtr from both teams with the ball moving up and down the ground quite quickly. Once again a very good effort, but we need to lift to the next level.
Summary:
For the third week in a row the effort has been fantastic, with a highlight this week being a lot of players matched their opponent with several more winning their positions. So why is there such a discrepancy on the scoreboard you ask? For this round it mainly was not taking the ball cleanly (first grab), not pushing hard enough defensively after a turnover and 1 percenters (mainly F&C) really hurt us as in most of the contests we punched and brought the ball to the ground, but no one was there. So playing the last three weeks at this level is now not enough, we have to raise the ante again for the run home.
