Thirds Match Report – Round 11
We had our best start for the year and had three goals on the board before we allowed the opposition to work themselves back into the contest. We were kicking with a 3-4 goal breeze and needed to keep pushing, but after 15 minutes we backed off just a bit and let Tuggeranong score a couple of easy goals and they were back in the contest, but the big positive was that we won the quarter. When looking at the stats for the second Qtr and not the scoreboard it was a pretty even qtr, but each time Tuggeranong went ISF they generally scored and we didn’t. Even though we were kicking into the breeze we had equal opportunities up fwd, but failed to produce. We played a solid 15 minutes and a scratchy 10, and also losing Smith and Merrington during this qtr did not help our cause.
After half time we came out strong and once again we played a very good 15 minutes but this time fitness and now being down to one on the bench started taking its toll. Tuggeranong took control of the last 10 minutes, but we hung on as best we could to at least win the qtr by a point. It was not even five minutes into the last Qtr and we were down to none on the bench and with a lot of players getting tired and at least four cramping badly. Tuggeranong slammed on five goals in the first 10 minutes of the qtr. The last 15 minutes wasn’t pretty, as the boys lifted as much as they could and I was really proud how they scrapped as best they could to the end.
Summary
Fitness still is an issue, but we cannot question their effort for this match.
