After a top effort last week against quality opposition the Tri Colors came up against a side they had beaten on two previous occasions and with their confidence high were really looking at their 5th win of the year.
After a flying start through on ballers Frawley and Neely the signs look good as we attacked and had 2 goals on the board going against the wind but, as has been a problem all year, our skill level and decision making let the Hawks in for some late goals to have them leading at quarter time .
The second term started the same way as it had finished and before long we found ourselves 5 goals down and playing a terrible brand of football and the body language of the players suggested the game may be lost. But to their credit and the hard work of players Olsen, McFarlane and 2 late goals from Paine we went into the half time break only 2 goals down.
The third quarter saw us start well but the Hawks once again seemed more desperate and team focussed and we seemed to be relying on the brilliance of a few individuals such as rover I Lawless, veteran Ebert, fullback Love and hardworking centre half forward Olsen to keep us in the game. We came into the three quarter time huddle 14 points in arrears but the possibility of a win was a real chance as we had the scoring end and a home ground advantage.
The last quarter began with a rush and after 2 brilliant goals from captain Billy Neely we had closed the gap to 2 points but our surge to victory came to a screaming hault as the Hawks scored a goal and then through an indiscretion got another straight away and this gave them the momentum they needed and they cruised to 20 point victory.
Best players in what was a very disappointing loss were A Olsen, I Lawless, Neely McFarlane and teenager Harris while Paine with 5 goals and Love at full back did their jobs but the result really showed that a good team will always beat a group of individuals which unfortunately we were on the weekend.
